Thinking of Buying

I am thinking of buying a Superhawk. I am good rider and like to ride "briskly". I have two concerns about the Superhawk. One is the gas mileage. I have heard it is horrible. Second is I ride anywhere from sea level to crossing 11,000 passes and am concerned about being carburated rather than injected. I don't want to be continuely rejeting. Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks George

"Brisk" rides usually net about 100-125 mile range. I live in the flats but have been as high as 6k ft with no problems.

Like most any sportbike, the Superhawk will net you low-thirties to mid-forties mpg depending on how you ride. The tank is a little smaller than other bikes in order to maintain it's slim V-twin waistline (a good thing). In practice, fuel range has never been an issue on any of the rides I have taken it on. Funny thing is, I get better gas mileage on my Superhawk than I do on my CBR1000RR (which gets low thirties) and the tank on the CBR is only 0.3 gal bigger. No one ever gripes about range on a CBR. I think the Superhawk gets a bad rap. I love mine, It's one of the coolest bikes I've ever owned, and it's a lot faster than I expected it to be. Oh yeah, mine runs fine at 6000 ft. too.

I have never really had an issue with fuel range, but I dont really ride more than 400 miles a day (unless im going on a trip that was planned long in advance) and when the tank gets empty, like many other people, im ready to take a break. I have ridden all over, up to about what bling said about
6k ft > sea level and i didnt notice a difference....but it seemed to get better gas mileage....still think that one was kind weird, as my ODO hit 150 and i still had 2 bars on my fuel gauge...and it has NEVER done that before. All in all it's my favorite bike. I have had, more recently, an R6 and a Honda Shadow 1.1kcc, and I have to say that the VTR is my favorite bike (that i have owned). I really don't think you can go wrong with it unless you are the type of guy that has to have THE BEST (fastest, newest, most bitchin and gangsta) bike.....you can develop a relationship with it unlike most of the other "cool bikes".
