OEM, sold only as a set, Valve Starter set
http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detai...6-MBB-640.html

Scratch made, g_l_s_r on the VTR UK forum has made some for sale occasionally out of brass stock.

Home made modified OEM parts, Polaris carb part can be modified easily to work. Do a search here for "choke" and "polaris" and you should find several threads to include one I posted when I made a set.

thanks a ton. I found it on bikebandit, but it was a bit pricey. I really wish bike companies wouldnt make such critical parts out of plastic.

Yup, and you would be better off not replacing those plastic ones with more plastic ones.

Buy a set from glsr if available, or make a set from the brass Polaris parts

I bought my set from glsr on the VTR1000 site. $18 shipped to NC from England. It did take him a bit, though, as he makes them once in a while on nights and weekends.

I tried to organize a group buy with Mark (g_l_s_r) for some engine cover caps/bungs. Him and I sent quite a few emails back and forth. Really cool, down to earth guy. He does that work on the side for fun and is not really interested in group buys, because then it will be work. Which is understandable.

How long do you think your buddy would need to make several sets? Do you think he can make them for about $18-$20 per set?

I would like to buy a couple sets.

Even after you told me that Mark told you, to tell me to email him, which I did, he still won't return my emails. I appologized profusely to Mark for trying to set up that group buy. He was very understanding too. I really don't know what happened.

If anyone can make these, there is a very small market.

too much. he's a very talented machinist, but he's young and a little unrealistic. I'll see if i can talk him down for a group price, but i dunno.

Im going to email the guy i know with some pics and see what he would give me for a price.

BTW colin, are you asking him to make it out of brass as seems to be the "standard"? It would be more cost effective and just as sturdy to make these out of aluminum...

project feeler

Alright so theres a custom machine shop on the way to my dentist so I decided to stop in on my way back and talk to the guy. showed him pics and specs from Erik's thread and when he quoted me a price my jaw almost dropped... so its looking like the polaris part is gonna be the winner here.

Although I dont have a lathe I do have the tooling necessary (quality drill press and a precision vice) to make these up. Depending on the cost per part, if I were to offer these at $20-$25 a set shipped to your door(lower 48 states) who would be interested?

curious what he quoted you. My buddy said 50 a piece in brass, 30 a piece in aluminum. and that was the buddy deal, he said. i wonder if the glsr guy is doing the modded polaris ones.

I found out that I now have a crap load of free time on my hands. So, I tried looking online at a few places for the Polaris part, but have not found them any cheaper than $30-$37 w/shipping. Where are you guys getting these so dang cheap?

Went to Don & Roy's, my local dealer. Both Polaris parts were ~$29. Will be 7-10 days before they can get them in though.

I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes here, but....

Been following this thread, and, like my fuel screws, I can have these made. It will take some time though since I need to get my hands on an extra set of choke cables in order to get the plastic part off. I think Mikstr can help me out with this, since he has extra's, and I don't want to loose my ride for a few weeks.

I'll check if it can be made in a cost effective way, and, will keep you posted on my progress. If I can come up with something very reasonable, I'll be able to give anyone interested a time frame.
