source for choke fitting?

anyone got a source for the choke cable fitting at the carb end?

E.Marquez 06-15-2015 07:28 AM

OEM, sold only as a set, Valve Starter set
http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detai...6-MBB-640.html

Scratch made, g_l_s_r on the VTR UK forum has made some for sale occasionally out of brass stock.

Home made modified OEM parts, Polaris carb part can be modified easily to work. Do a search here for "choke" and "polaris" and you should find several threads to include one I posted when I made a set.

cccolin 06-15-2015 07:57 AM

thanks a ton. I found it on bikebandit, but it was a bit pricey. I really wish bike companies wouldnt make such critical parts out of plastic.

Yup, and you would be better off not replacing those plastic ones with more plastic ones.

Buy a set from glsr if available, or make a set from the brass Polaris parts

AndyMX47 06-15-2015 09:42 AM

I bought my set from glsr on the VTR1000 site. $18 shipped to NC from England. It did take him a bit, though, as he makes them once in a while on nights and weekends.

VTR1000F 06-15-2015 10:00 AM

Who's got 50 posts over there and can PM to organize a group buy for the rest of us saps?

cccolin 06-15-2015 03:13 PM

i'd be in on a group buy for brass fittings...other wise i may send the plastic one off to my machinist buddy and have him dupe it.

VTR1000F 06-15-2015 04:56 PM

I'd be in for a group buy of brass fittings duped by your machinist friend.

CruxGNZ 06-15-2015 05:54 PM

I tried to organize a group buy with Mark (g_l_s_r) for some engine cover caps/bungs. Him and I sent quite a few emails back and forth. Really cool, down to earth guy. He does that work on the side for fun and is not really interested in group buys, because then it will be work. Which is understandable.

How long do you think your buddy would need to make several sets? Do you think he can make them for about $18-$20 per set?

I would like to buy a couple sets.

cccolin 06-15-2015 07:23 PM

I'll ask him if he's interested.

thedeatons 06-15-2015 07:37 PM

I pm'd Mark on vtr1000.org and had a set within 2 weeks with zero problems.

+1 crux

I'll talk to the machinest that made my headlight brackets too and see if hes interested if colin's guy isnt interested. To be honest I've never had a problem with mine but from what I see I will eventually...

Even after you told me that Mark told you, to tell me to email him, which I did, he still won't return my emails. I appologized profusely to Mark for trying to set up that group buy. He was very understanding too. I really don't know what happened.

If anyone can make these, there is a very small market.

cccolin 06-16-2015 08:12 AM

i messaged my friend about it. Haven't heard back yet, he's not on the interwebs all that much.

cccolin 06-17-2015 08:44 AM

my buddy wants too much for them. should go with the guy on the other forum.

How much did your buddy want for a set?

cccolin 06-17-2015 01:10 PM

too much. he's a very talented machinist, but he's young and a little unrealistic. I'll see if i can talk him down for a group price, but i dunno.

scottiemann 06-17-2015 01:18 PM

Im going to email the guy i know with some pics and see what he would give me for a price.

BTW colin, are you asking him to make it out of brass as seems to be the "standard"? It would be more cost effective and just as sturdy to make these out of aluminum...

cccolin 06-17-2015 01:19 PM

yeah. i'll ask him about aluminum.

E.Marquez 06-17-2015 06:37 PM

Make a set from the polaris parts and be done with it.

project feeler

Alright so theres a custom machine shop on the way to my dentist so I decided to stop in on my way back and talk to the guy. showed him pics and specs from Erik's thread and when he quoted me a price my jaw almost dropped... so its looking like the polaris part is gonna be the winner here.

Although I dont have a lathe I do have the tooling necessary (quality drill press and a precision vice) to make these up. Depending on the cost per part, if I were to offer these at $20-$25 a set shipped to your door(lower 48 states) who would be interested?

cccolin 06-18-2015 11:05 AM

curious what he quoted you. My buddy said 50 a piece in brass, 30 a piece in aluminum. and that was the buddy deal, he said. i wonder if the glsr guy is doing the modded polaris ones.

scottiemann 06-18-2015 11:05 AM

sorry if I just stepped on anyones toes there, please let me know if I did...

cccolin 06-18-2015 11:06 AM

oh, and id be interested in modded polaris ones. I could do it myself but i'm lacking in the shop department at the moment after a cross country move.

CruxGNZ 06-18-2015 11:39 AM

I found out that I now have a crap load of free time on my hands. So, I tried looking online at a few places for the Polaris part, but have not found them any cheaper than $30-$37 w/shipping. Where are you guys getting these so dang cheap?

scottiemann 06-18-2015 11:45 AM

the quoted price made from scratch out of aluminum was in the $120 for the set area... fuck that

and mat my price for modded ones came out my ass, I'll start seeing what I can find for these things and start a new thread if I decide to take this on and resell them...

CruxGNZ 06-18-2015 05:52 PM

Went to Don & Roy's, my local dealer. Both Polaris parts were ~$29. Will be 7-10 days before they can get them in though.

Jack Flash 06-18-2015 06:07 PM

I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes here, but....

Been following this thread, and, like my fuel screws, I can have these made. It will take some time though since I need to get my hands on an extra set of choke cables in order to get the plastic part off. I think Mikstr can help me out with this, since he has extra's, and I don't want to loose my ride for a few weeks.

I'll check if it can be made in a cost effective way, and, will keep you posted on my progress. If I can come up with something very reasonable, I'll be able to give anyone interested a time frame.
