I'm glad he's alive. It was his fault, though.

I love gettin into arguments with harley guys about helmets... i had one tell me the only differance a helmet makes is a closed casket to an open casket

That helmet was trashed! Had this idiot one night tell me that you are safer not wearing a helmet above 13 MPH, his theory was that the extra weight of the helmet puts extra stress on your neck and will cause a basal(sp) fracture like what happened to Dale Earnhardt. I told him that was the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I then asked him why do racers wear helmets then? His response "Because they are required to"... Natural selection is alive and kicking apparently.

It looks like to me that the rider in the video caused/ contributed to his own accident.

Slightly off subject: About a month ago I attended the street smarts workshop. One guy in the class tried to make a case that helmets are not effective over 40mph. Thankfully this did not go over well and he quickly shut up.

Later he got into loud pipes save lives.

That was News 5 out of Nashville and actually happened in Gallatin, TN. I work about a mile from where it happened.

Helmets are made to withstand impacts from the height where your head is when you ride to the ground, which is 4.5 to 5 feet. That's it. That means they would be effective at that job at nearly any speed.
They are not made to protect the rider from injuries sustained from hitting a fixed object like a curb, a tree, a post, etc. They're not made to protect your head from injuries sustained when a garbage truck rolls over your head, but, thankfully for this guy, his helmet did in this case.

I guess that answers the question....Do HJC helmets really work?
Evidently they do if you're dragged under a garbage truck.

I was glad to see that since I own 3 HJC helmets. I have no plans, however, to do the garbage truck test any time soon.
