To remove the rear, or not to...
I'm going to remove and replace a rear shock and I'm seeking direction. Is removing the rear wheel a must? Also, any problems with suspending the bike from the rear subframe? Oh yeah, one more thing, what (if any recomendation) does the shock itself get torqued to? My "real" computer crashed so I can't even read the disk with the manual on it. Any suggestions are welcome!

Hi Ranchomice,
I notice the "soon to be installed.." on your signature. You're going to love it!
Be warned... I was able to lift my bike with a winch and drop the stock shock out the bottom, but ended up having to remove the entire header to get my JDM converted F4i shock installed... Not a lot of room down there and the new shock is a bit bulkier.

Thanks guys. I found the manual on the forum so the only other question is, do I need to replace the top mounting bolt? It says "install new" in the manual. PS. I'm not installing an F4 mod. I had him revalve and respring a stock VTR shock.

The easiest way I found to change the rear shock is to put jack stands under the foot pegs. There is no need to change the top bolt. On mine I had to use an impact wrench on the top nut to crank it down and keep the shock from spinning on me.
