When I shift at the recommended shift points in the manual my engine seems to be lugging. I would think that the Honda engineers would know what they're talking about. Do others feel this way too?

 

I am no pro by any means,

I find that for a casual ride, say in the city I shift around 5500 rpms....If I am on the hwy I shift sooner around 4k or so just to get her into the higher gears so I am cruising at a lower rpm to save gas....to each his own....I am not a very aggresive rider so I have never even experienced the upper rpm range of my bike----8 or 9 k.......I am sure that you will get varying views on here.....

Take those are the absolute minimum to change gears not the norm.

 

I know it's minimum, but the verbage used "minimal fuel consumption" edge you to believe those are the optimum points to shift at, not the minimum.

But everybody knows, being in the highest gear possible is also not the safest thing when cruising on the street when you need to swirve and accelerate to the speed of traffic after braking....again, more of the lawyer words from Honda....
