rear sprocket woes......please help....

ok, ive owned a few bikes in my time, however the longest time with one bike was an 82 shaft drive magna. my last bike was an 84 inteceptor which was scrapped shortly after my jc whitney chain failed horribly, and now i find tonite i am missing teeth on my wonderful Shawk. Am i doing something wrong to my chain? i lube the damn thing like every week, i think its in good alignment, and the chain slack is where it should be i think. can someone tell me what causes a sprocket to break.......thanx

how badly would the rear tire have to be misaligned to break 4 teeth, not in a row mind you, and how often, and with what should i clean the chain with, and what would you recommend lubing the chain with superbling? also this bike spends all its life outside.....and thanx superbling i knew i could count on you for the first answer buddy!

Very misaligned. Does your sprocket match your chain size?

Since it is broken I would order a new chain, and both sprockets at the same time, from the same place to make sure they match. And make sure that it is brand name stuff.

Sounds like you take care of the chain so it's pretty weird to be breaking teeth. You don't ride down many gravel roads do you? Just a thought.

I haven't had any trouble with sprockets from Vortex Racing ....
