954 Heli bar woes

For those who've converted to a CBR front end and used CBR Heli bars...how the hell did you do it? The bars are so low that to get the throttle cables to clear the fairing at full right-hand lock I had to push the bars so far forward to be uncomfortable AND rotate the throttle assembly aroud the bar towards me. Am I SOL and should've sprung for Convertibars or is there some secret I'm not privy to? And yes, I searched for similar threads but didn't find much, as much as this has probably been re-hashed. Sure wish '954' was a valid search string!

See if this helps. I think the 954 forks and the 929 are very close in dimensions.

I had actually placed my throttle cables under the brake lever and losened the nuts to twist them and did some custom bending to get them to clear the fairing. Never had a problem with them after that. I have since changed to an RC51 front end so I dont have a very good picture of it mounted but here you go.

I used a 929/954 throttle housing.
The cables face forward not down.
To do this I had to reconfigure the pins in the red wiring connector.
It was easy.
However since the SH throttle doesn't have any electronics built in you could use an after market throttle.
I use this motion pro throttle on my race bike, and I love it.

That motion pro throttle looks like it'd do the trick. Thanks for the tip!

If Motion Pro doesn't have the throttle cables on file, they'll want you to send them a set. I've done that before.

Or make your own. It is really easy. You can get all the parts required, or just the parts needed to modify an existing cable. I use http://www.flandersco.com for all my cable part needs. You can order by the piece, bulk, or kits. All you need for tools is sharp side cutters, silver soldier, flux, pencil torch (or a small tip for your Ox/acetylene torch) Once you have done one.. It is so easy, you'll never understand why you waited so long for that replacement cable of last year, month, what ever. I keep spares and the tools in my travel kit,, So never again will my ride, or that of the folks with me be ruined by a busted cable (this is off road, but the same can be said for street or track bike projects in your garage/shop)
