Pretty much landed in my lap

Not to sure what I wanna do with it now, was gonna tear it down and part it out but not to sure. May look for a clutch cover as it s currently fubar'd, but I need to ensure the motor rotates freely and other visual inspections before I make final decisions.

What you want for free.

Seriously guys, this isn't the for sale section.. he said he might part it out but he is going to see if its salvageable first. I think he meant he got it for free, I dont think he is giving it away

As the Blues Brothers once asked, 'What do you want for nothing, a rubber biscuit?' I think that pretty much sums it up.

LOL right, I don't think that was a question asking what parts you all want for free I'm pretty sure that was a statement referring to the condition as in "what do you expect for free?"

You mean the kind of sandwich where you have 2 slices of bread and you WISH you had some meat?

jscobey.....I see what you did there, bunch of vultures around this place hahahaha

I got the seat and what's left of the plastics but I'm not to confident in the frame but everything else looks good....maybe, haven't torn into yet.

I may go-kart the engine but I see a right hand engine cover is hard to get used so I shall see on that end. If y'all are needing parts I'll make a for sale thread or what ever when I figure out what exactly I want to do. I think it still has the potential to be a cheap streetfighter rebuild but I don't know and will make a thread about the frame when I need to ask some questions. If your needs out weigh my wants I can work with ya as I have another bike and I have no issue supporting folks just keep in mind where I'm at.

One of the first things I saw when looking at the engine, I was just making sure I understood what he meant since the "m" threw me off for some reason. Other forum I'm on I haven't seen mcct they just go by "manual cct" that's all.

So far this is my biggest concern about the frame...

who knows how much more damage the frame may have sustained from the impact if it snapped off the upper mount for the fairing bracket?

Keep on forgetting, frame is stickered/stamped with year 1999 would that mean its a 99' or 00'? I know some manufactures lable for either same year or the next year.

It should have a VIN sticker on the frame up near the steering head. I assume that's the sticker you're talking about. My '99 has a big "1999" on that sticker with a small "10/98" near the top of the sticker. I imagine that means it was manufactured in October of '98. It is a 1999 model.

And to decipher the VIN code, as an example JH2SC36A4VM8******

JH2: country of production (JH2=WMI Honda Japan, 1HF=Honda America, ZDC=Honda Italy, VTM=Montesa/Honda Spain)
SC36: type = VTR1000F)
A or B: early or late version
4: control number (1-9 or X)
T: year (T=1996, V=1997, W=1998, X=1999, Y=2000, 1=2001 ... 6=2006)
M: factory (M=Hamamatsu/Japan, K=Kumamoto/Japan, A=Ohio/USA, F=Atessa/Italy, E=Barcelona/Spain
000992: serial number

So mine JH2SC36A4VM8****** was an early version manufactured in '97 in Hamamatsu Japan.

Looks like the bike was dropped from a great height before landing in your lap, and with the frame damage IMHO best broken for parts.

Crikikaze,
You can pick up a new frame on Ebay for not too much money. There are also a number of Chinese companies who sell the plastic bits for the VTR as well. I hate to see another bike die and go into parts!

That's not as much of a concern as the weld at the neck on the frame-check it for cracks. That mount is pretty easily snapped off by the fairing stay and I've seen it numerous times before on an otherwise perfect frame. Not saying your frame is straight but again those mounts break pretty easily anytime I've seen a force applied to the fairing stay. A major frontal impact is known to crack (or completely tear off in your's truly's case) that weld towards the front of the frame at the neck.

I'm told wheelie gone wrong. It may have cart wheeled but looking at it I doubt it since the forks appear to be in good condition so I think it just to one hard landing on the right side.

The only plastic I will more than likely get is just the tail, I'm gonna look for some clip-ons risers that bring the controls further back. Its gonna be interesting on how I mount a new tach and headlight, need to find mirrors to with blinkers. All that will have to wait, busy couple of weeks coming up.

didn't take long to find stuff haha.

+1 on everything captainchaos said.

Mine came like that too. I ended up replacing the frame, though, just for piece of mind. Hairline fractures are hard to spot...

I'll need to remember what the chemical is but its used on aircraft for detecting fractures/cracks, or really a liquid that glows under black light should work but I'm dropping the motor any way to make sure.

Damage of the cover:

Which way do I need to rotate the gear next to the clutch assembly?

Part of the cover was pressed up on the outer clutch plate(or what ever its called, can't think of the name right now) minor scuffs but it still looks good thus far, I'll check the whole assembly later.

I've started removing thing from the bike that are still good/salvageable, I'll post a FS thread once I get everything off that I'm not going to use. If someone wants to look into a part before hand just PM me if you don't wanna wait.
