Noob Introduction from Asheville, NC
Quick introduction: I’ve wanted a VTR since they appeared. At the time I had an FJ1200 and ran with a friend who had a Ducati 900CR and my brother, who was on an F3. I was the slow fast guy in the group.
Fast forward by many bikes, and I’m on a Buell M2. Nice bike, actually, but it has this tendency to, um, break. A lot.
Money is tight and I’m in the place where zipper catches skin (as far as the recession goes), so I decided to trade the Buell this fall. I list it on Craigslist and get a load of weird offers: Guns, cruisers, a few F3s/F4s. I actually had my heart set on a F3, but it turned out to be junk.
So I traded the Cyclone for a Superhawk. It’s a ’98 with around 21k. No suspension upgrades, but ss lines all around and loud, high pipes. Having plenty of free time on my hands, I’m REALLY happy to have a Honda again.
And that’s my story. I look forward to picking your brains.

Great time of the year to buy a Superhawk. Enjoy the fall roads. I would be real surprised if the CCT's and the RR replacement had not been done already. If your bike looks like a well cared for bike, these simple mods have already been done. Don't search the knowledge base for CCT - it doesn't recog that. Search for Cam Chain Tensioner or Regulator Rectifier and you'll get lots of reading material. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome and good choice of trade. If you like wrenching on your own bike...this bike is perfect. It's a great ride and not difficult of maintain and repair. As stated above, CCT's and R/R should be checked and valve clearance, too, when doing the CCT's. Disable/remove the PAIR system and if it's a Cali bike, take off the emissions (I ended up with a Cali bike in KY...haven't figured that one out yet). If you like to mod the crap out of your bike...there's plenty of info on this site. Folks here are eager to help and always do. Enjoy the bike!

Thanks for the welcome, guys.
I’m supposedly the third owner of this bike. Someone loved it, but when I got the machine it had race slicks on it and had seen some track time, too. It runs strong, but it does have a few missing and broken pieces – no chin fairing, broken seat latch, etc…
I had a VFR700 that left me stranded in a cornfield at 3 a.m. a few years back, so checking out the rectifier is top of the list. After that I’ll probably do the VFR bars or some superbar mod, followed by the front brake upgrade, RT springs and F4 shock. These are my plans, anyhow.
Asheville is great riding country. The parkway is about two miles from my front door and there’s riding in nearby Madison County that is just incredible. Problem will be gas stops, I suppose. The M2 was an early example and ran low at 130 miles, too, and before that I owned a Hawk GT, so I’m used to the drill… but there’s nothing scarier than seeing the fuel light when you’re 100 miles from anywhere.
Next week I’m going to try to do an overnight trip out towards Arkansas. After that I’d like to go to Texas to visit the grave of my favorite uncle. I would never have considered these trips on the Buell. ‘course it’s been in the 50s here this last week, too, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I haven’t blown my season.

Welcome.
Here's my noob advice (and it only took me 4 years and 50,000 miles to learn this), use the owner's manual recommended rear tire pressure (42psi) if you want that tire to last.

I have a lot of time to ride right now, so I hope to explore out a bit further... Here's to hoping that I have an updated R1 rectifyer in the bike. (Now I just need to figure out how to get the seat off to check it out!)
