New to the superhawk

hello everyone, I have found a good deal on a superhawk. so I will be buying it tomorrow. Its a 2002 with 30000 miles, needs a starter, clutch handle, and windscreen. I think 1000 bucks seems to be a good deal for it.

I am upgrading from spending the past three years riding and building a F3 CBR.

Just wondering what all problems are these bike prone to!

Would like a heads up on what I'm about to get myself into

the bike is bone stock as of right now, only mod is a race lower....

sounds like the same problems I've ran into with my F3 for the past 3 years. Do they make a manual cct kit for these? and does the gsxr R/R work on these? I had to transfer the F3 over to one back last year. I'm not afraid to work on it, I like a good challenge.

Also I will need a gas cap, the guy put a keyless one on it and took it off and resold it

Thanks for the quick reply

I just got home from looking at the bike today, I hope to push start it tomorrow and If it fire's up it's coming back home with me....

they do make a cct for these, you can find it on here from a member.if i could find link,i will put it up.70 to 80 bucks i beleive.i just helped a member put some on his bike today,i will ask him who the seller is and get that to you.
the gsxr R/R will work on these, best way to go.

the gas cap, should be able to find it on here or ebay.
the bike might push start,i imagine you want to hear it run before you give money,if it oesnt,do you still plan on buying it.

I'm not 100% sure if I will buy it if it doesn't run. I am planing on taking a bunch of tools to the guys house tomorrow and mess around with it for a bit, He gave me full permission to do whatever. I didn't have much time to mess around with it tonight, I did have the money in my pocket tonight for it thou, just wasn't so sure. Won't make the decision until I figure out more with it, I did push it in gear tonight and the motor isn't locked or anything.

I got took buy the guy I bought my F3 from, he swore it ran great, and sure it did after he rode it for an hour before I showed up to buy it. Then when I got it, it turned out to be the biggest headache I've ever had, but it was a nice learning experience

cool, doesnt sound to bad for the most part.
make sure the petcock is turned on.
make sure the pvlir is in the right location.its a hose that goes on the petcock.
take new plugs and drop them in,that could help.if not, atleast check them first, could be bad spark if not starting.
it might take a little time to get the gas traveling,so be patient.
while you have the plugs out,put the bike on a rear stand and rotate motor, its easier this way.no back pressure makes it easy.
ohhhh and check all fuses, and the main fuse.
the main fuse is located in the tail fairing on the right side.gotta take the tail off to see it.

will do, thanks for the heads up.... also do these have a fuel pump or gravity fed? it has no gas in it right now, and If it has a fuel pump I may make a quick jumper wire to make it work straight from battery to fill bowls before I kill myself pushing the heck out of it.

Also I just looked on ebay and found a few motors for around a 1000 bucks, I may buy it even if no start, at worst case a full motor and all other parts I would end up with around 2500 in rebuilt, that doesn't seem to be so bad, plus I enjoy working on bikes, I loved when I installed the big bore kit in my F3, it was a very nice learning experience

it is gravity fed,put about a gallon ofgas.im not sure it will start without gas cap,it has to build some preassure to help pump it thru.
hold on the motor,im sure you could find cheaper.

Gravity fed, but activated by the petcock vacuum line (as sage said). Worst case scenario you can pour gas in the fuel lines to see if you can start it.

there is a local motorcycle junk yard where I live, and I think I seen a superhawk there about 2 weeks ago that was wrecked with bent forks and no rims, that ran! ... And they where wanting 500 for the complete bike with no title, I may go buy it to keep as a parts bike.

I sold my other bike for 2700, so I have some cash to play with right now

It did me too, That was my first (streetbike) I've rode dirtbikes since I was 7. Within 2 weeks of buying it, I had tore the carbs off, learned jetting tricks. Within the first summer I had tore whole motor apart and learn't how to rebuilt the whole bike, sure did turn out to be a nice bike in the end thou, just decided it was time for me a new project and something a lil bit bigger, really wanted a fuel injected bike, but heck I know carbs like the back of my hand now. Also heard people praise the Torque of these bikes
