....but old rider.

Been around motorcycles for about 25 years, but just picked up a 99 super hawk. 20,000 miles and a few nicks and bruises, but overall, it's in good shape.

It's already been outfitted with Staintune hi rise exhaust, jetted carbs, and aftermarket air intake.

I had it at the track (Barber) last weekend for the first time, and it was a blast to ride. I'm looking forward to getting to know it much better.

Anyone know a solution for boot heels melting on the hi-rise pipes? I need some type of bracket to keep my feet off of it. I'm already in the process of making some homemade rearsets to get more foot clearance. I scraped the toe protector off my right boot after only 4 sessions on the track.

Welcome!

As for the boot heel problem, several have mentioned it.. You will have to either change where you place your feet, or fab up a custom plate.. No one makes one just for that purpose.

I see it still has stock CCTs, you might consider getting APEs just for peace of mind. (those and the R/R are the two weak points, reliability wise, on our bikes)

Hey, Dave. What brings you over to this side? Sell the VX, or just giving it some well deserved rest?

i had the same problem with my exhaust when i got it. i just got low mount mid pipes, because even if i put a heat shield on it or something it would still affect my foot position. as for the toe sliders, you say that was your first time on the track? if so i bet your just sticking your feet out too much. i had the same problem until i made a conscious effort to keep the toes on the pegs and in as far as they can go.

welcome. You have the best color for the bike. Your looks exactly how mine did soon after first getting it. I like the high staintunes. Personally I never minded the heel marks and certainly the look of the high pipes are worth it IMO. you'll love the site - lots of good info and people.

VX long gone. it was wrecked two years ago by a friend of my son's. I have a Kawi 650R after that, but sold that for my Triumph and have just picked this SH up. I'm just a sucker for twins!

Foot position is something I pay attention to becuase I used to scrape my toes all the time so I've worked on keeping them up on the pegs more. The SH seems to have lower pegs though, because my Triumph is not much of a problem. They scrape a little, but on the SH, I ground the suckers completely off. I think the riser idea will solve it.

It's more than just marks on the pipes though. it melted the crap out of the heels. Fortunately these were inexpensive boots that I plan to replace, but I don't want $300 boots to get the same treatment. I guess the SH/hi-rise combo wasn't designed for size 12s! :-D

I had the same problem. I picked up some aftermarket adjustable footpegs, and they totally fixed both problems. my heel didn't touch the pipe anymore, and my toes didn't scrape. here;s the link: http://secure.mycart.net/catalogs/ca...showprevnext=1

Did they work well with the shifter and brake locations?

Thanks Joe. How's the setup on your bike work for you? Particularly the sprocket changes. I've been tinkering with some numbers trying to decide if I want to change things there.

neither the brake or the shifting were negatively effected. in fact, I found that with my track boots on, the notorious hard shift into 2nd went away. you do have to adjust the shifter, depending on where you put the pegs, but adjustment is all you need to do. I'd post pics but I took them off my ftp site. I'll see if I can find them and repost them tonight.
