new member maybe new bike
hello all. i've been out of bikes for a while but have a chance to get 2005 with under 1000 miles with a two brothers exhaust, smaller blinkers and a fender eliminator, yes i said under 1000 miles for 5g's. This bike will be primarily used for commuting to work (75 miles rt.) What kind of mileage should i expect and how about servicing (can i do most of it myself). Thanks and any info would be great.

About 35 MPG or so.. Most folks are having the low fuel light come on in the 98-120 mile range.
Servicing? without knowing you your abilities and resources no way to say.... Can many home wrench's with decent general mechanical abilities and tools perform basic service on a SH? YES.. But I know people who own thousands of dollars in tool that should not be allowed by law to use them,,

all three superhawks I have worked on and have riden consistently averaged in the 40's mpg. I personally get 43 to 45 cruising freeway and even on spirited rides like the ones I went on yesterday still get 38 or so it is only stop light to stop light that I see really bad mpgs, like 30 if I am only riding in traffic no open road. I have never understood all the complaints about poor gas mileage. I either think the bike is out of tune (some one running too rich) or a major change in gearing will have so much effect. Personally I could care less if the bike has 2 hp more from a rejet but looses 10 mpgs because of it. My bike pulls just as hard any other hawk I have riden with and still get good mileage. So there ...
Also I think the hawk is very DIY freindly compared to alot of bikes, but I would not go as far as to say it is easy. All simple service stuff can be done the only technically difficult job maintenance wise is valve adjustments otherwise not to bad. If the only job you farm out is that figure in every 16k miles a $300 to $400 job to have a shop do it.
