Welcome to the site... Things to keep in mind are the regulator/rectifier in the early models are prone to failure - '01 up are finned for better cooling and tend to hold up better. Another issue is the cam chain tensioners or "CCTs" They can fail and severely damage the piston and valves - easy fix is to put in manual ones from APE and never look back. Hope you find one, they are real fun to ride.

Are the finned rectifiers interchangable? How easy is it to install the manual cam chain tensioners.I'm thinking I'll be ready to purchase in the next month or two. I allready have an 03 meanstreak for more laid back riding but I miss my V-MAX.Instead of getting another MAX I want to try something different.
thanks people.

'05 Titanium or "stealth gray" is not detected by police radar.

i guess whats stands out to me is the 02's and newer have a nicer gauge setup. Otherwise most otherstuff is the same. You can always Wiki them.

Yes the rectifier is interchangeable or you can go with other options like the Yamaha R1/R6 or aftermarket like circuit_burner on here sells - search the forums.

The CCT swap isn't that hard and takes maybe an hour or so, take a look in the knowledgebase section for a great writeup on the procedure.
