New guy here with questions

Hi yall, just a quick introduction my name is Zach and I have been lurking around on these forums for a few weeks now thinking that the VTR might just be the bike for me at this stage in my life. In my quest I came across a particular bike on my local cl and was wondering what you all thought about the price, and any tips for when I go and check the bike out in person, meaning are there any specific issues that I should be looking for. I know the miles are not listed, so I contacted the seller and am waiting to hear back from him to see what they are. Anyhow heres the link:

Thanks,
Zach

Looks nice, especially if mileage is less than 15K and the tires are good.

I have a 98 (that was also painted black) and was badly abused by its previous owner, but it still runs like a champ with over 35K miles on it.

Specific issues, if the chain is slouching it will rub and damage the exhaust - check below the lower return of the chain and you will see.

Ask him about cam chain tensioners and the R/R (regulator rectifier)

But it definantly looks sweet, and believe me (I own a 98)

Different areas have different prices. Probably not a kick as deal, but an honest price. Probably should offer $28 and settle on 3k. VTRs can handle lots of miles if cared for properly.

Looks good to me. The black paint is very sinister. If it hasn't been abused I'd get it. Look for rubber chunks on the undertail (burnouts), ask about CCT's and RR's, and the usual stuff one would ask when buying a bike.

Being a "re-pain" you'll want to check for crash damage, if not for your own safety it's a good way to talk him down on price. From a photo standpoint it looks pretty clean. If it is what he says it is $3,400 isn't a bad price.

OK, so I talked to the current owner, he seems to be a fairly nice guy and he is a cop, which for some reason comforts me. The bike has 15k miles and I am going to go see it out either tomorrow or Sunday. Thanks for the tips about the r/r and the cct, I am going to check them out when I get there.

don't let that lull you into a comfort zone...cops are just like everyone else, some are good guys and some will rip you off in a minute...

look the bike over, ask about service/maintenance and check records/receipts if available...if everything checks out and you feel comfortable, make him a reasonable offer...
