New England Wrench help

Okay, I'm coming up on 15000 miles and I'm starting to think about checking my valves and replaceing the stock CCT's with some brand new APE CCT's I have sittin in the garage. I think I can do it but I want to have someone watching over my shoulder just to be on the safe side (especially for the valve check). I'll also be changing the oil and plugs while I'm at it. Is there anyone in New England who wouldn't mind spending a Saturday or Sunday within the next three weeks helping me do this? It can be your place or mine makes no difference. Experience with this is a must but I'll definitely throw money your way for the time and knowledge. I don't want to take one of the craigslist ads (bike mechanic, resonable rates, your place or mine) and I'm not comfortable going to the dealership or paying there rates for something I feel I can do myself with a little help. Any help or advice would be great. I live on Hanscom AFB, MA about 30 minutes west of Boston. Thanks gang.

If you can't find anyone we can sure walk you through it online. I'm sure there are plenty of people(including myself) that have good pictures and first hand experience.

I can give you a hand with that service. I have the shims in stock in case you need any. I would rather do the service here. The only problem is to check valves the motor needs to be cold. Let me know if you are intersted.

Smack, I checked mine and they were all within spec! Also, I did the manual CCts...just follow the advice found here on the forum and zip-tie the cam chain for added piece of mind and keep $300+ in you pocket

FTMS-I'll take you up on that offer. Let me know a good Saturday or Sunday in the next 2-3 weeks and I'll see if it works with my schedule. I know I'll have to leave here around 6 am to get to you by 8 am so I'll need highway directions or an address to mapquest. No time for the twisties. How long do you figure this would take? I'm thinking around 5-6 hours if we take our time? I don't want to waste your whole day. I'll shoot you a pm.

Rick C. - I have definitely considered doing it myself but I am kind of ham fisted. Example, my first bike, first oil change I ever did (few years ago) I decided to muscle the oil drain plug on without a torque wrench. The next day I was tapping the plug hole with a heli coil to fix my screw up. That's why I think I should use a coach with the valves and such. Thanks though.

Coaches are good and you'll learn a lot! Just make sure you have his favorite beverage on hand
