My next bike

I didn't plan to buy a new bike until spring but I couldn't pass this one up. I bought a wrecked 2002 Yamaha R1 with 8k miles and a clear title for $1400. All it needs is a stator cover, front wheel, and tail section. I'll bet I can get it on the road for under $2000 total including tabs!
I miss the hawk but I'm sure to have a blast on this one!

IMO the 2002-2003 R1's were the nicest ones they made (much nicer than the 2004 and later models I think). You also get the older engine which had a much wider powerband than the new screamer, and it's FI too. As we say here, good score dude

Really, thats what the tests say. From what I've read Yamaha took the high road and made a good overall bike while Suzuki focused on it's "kink-kong" motor. In 2004 the R1 got a healthy sot in the arm via ram air at the expense of ridability but whatever I don't need to do 180+.

I think the consensus is that if you have to have a gixxer these are also considered the "prime" years.
