Motorcycle Lift
Was wondering if anyone has purchased a Central Hydraulics 1500lb Motorcycle lift from Harbor Freight? I've heard good things about it, just wondering if anyone's thrown a Hawk on one? Can't beat the price, I think it's on sale for $59.99, thru November. Just looking for any feedback. Thanks.

Ok, sorry. Yeah they are on sale for $79.99 this one:

I don't know why but I was thinking you were referring to this one:

That's why I said really when you quoted $59, oh well i'm still not awake all the way yet.

Yeah Rollin20z, it was in the knew Sport Rider Pullout advertisement, 29% off, the online H.F. says 79.99, but 59.99 per the advertisement coupon!!! I looked at some online reviews and they had nothing but good things to say, I was just curious if the Hawk would pose a problem with it's front chin spoiler, I guess I could remove it when I wanted to wrench?? 16 1/4 height when fully extended is pretty nice, and it's hundreds of dollars cheaper than any of the other lifts. Albeit most of the other lifts have air valves to lift instead of foot pumps, but who cares abou that?? And know, I don't work for H.F., just wanted to pass it on to fellow Hawk owners.

a lot of dirt bikers have them, most with great success. Sears also carries the same thing under their name. $59.99 is the "normal" sale price from most sources.
I'm picking one up when they do at HF (down the road)

I have the Sears version of it, from what I can tell anyway. Ran around $80 at Sears. Worked fine on my early Goldwing, but not used it on the Hawk yet... I forget, might have used it to change the front tire, but did not take the spoiler off if I did. Old age... been a while since I used it!

From a review at WebBikeWorld: "My opinion is that a motorcycle on this lift may not be safe enough to perform anything other than light maintenance."
For future reference, this is an awesome source for comments on harbor freight tools, it's a "pass/fail" list from users: http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27192&highlight=harbor
Hope this helps.

The jack works good for cruisers, and motorcycles with a lower frame... doesn't work too well with the VTR.
This lift is the way to go, but I don't know if I'd put too much trust in it. I have a "Handy" air lift that I bought for $500 used in mint condition. I don't even think twice about putting a K1200LT on there and putting it all the way up. Not sure I'd do the same with the HF lift.

I have one that is similar to it and have done everything from both wheels at the same time to shock and front end changes where it sat on it for a couple of days. I use some flat pieces of metal across the lift and line them up with the cooling fins on the pan. Just make sure you use the tie downs or it won't be stable but I've used it for years only time it messed up is when I got lazy and didn't use the tie downs. I even posted a couple of pictures for someone who was asking about it I'll see if I can find them.

I had a similar lift but I got rid of it. I thought it was the perfect solution but I discovered that the oil pan on the VTR is too narrow for the bike to be stable on the lift even with tie downs. I don't dispute what superhawk22 said and I'm glad that he modified his so that it worked for him. It's easier and faster for me to put my bike on a rear stand. A rear stand also takes up less room and doesn't weigh a ton.

Hey Superhawk22, do you have any pictures of your steel plate mod. Seeing as I work with steel fabricators, I could have something fabbed up. Thanks everyone for your input, it's much appreciated.

My wife bought one of the Kendon lifts for me. Very sturdy and I'll never have to bend over to work on it again. It is handy, folds up and stores against the wall when not in use. She got it for me at cycle Gear, on sale for around 500. Very pricey but I think it was worth it.

my neighbour made his own lift like the one posted, worked great. his harley is on it now getting a heart transplant. ive got the first one mentioend, it wont work on our bikes, the exhaust will get in the way and it just wont pick them up. it does however do a great job of lifting and moving both of my quads. thing has saved my back a few times while trying to shove a quad into a tight corner

I have one like the cheap one and I use a block of wood under the oil pan to make it work, but you'd be MUCH better off buying front and rear stands. It's not the sturdiest thing to work with, but it was cheap.
