yes, special tools required for removal and installation. Some have made the tools using large sockets and dremel to fit the nut/bolt. You could search as there may be a picture. you can buy them from honda, maybe $100 total, can't recall. I think using the right tool is important particularly when it comes to torquing them properly at the end of the job. If yo have a good relationship with your shop they may lend them/rent them overnite, list yoru location and see if you are near anyone on the board that has them as another option.

I remember seeing in my Haynes manual details on making your own with a socket (ala' cliby). I'm cheap, that's what I would start with.

Good luck at your name brand dealer LOL. Last time I asked to borrow a $20 tool from a nameless local big shop (POWERSPORTS OF DELRAY) for removing the front wheel on my ZX12 I offered my two week paycheck and a $2k gold chain as collateral and guess what they said..."No." Tried EVERY other shop within about an hours distance too and they all said the same thing. But there's a mom and pop (of course) Kawi dealer by me in Lake Worth and the mechanic gave it to me on trust. What a saint (THANKS PAUL).

our local shop is a family business and good guys. I buy my parts there when I need them, even if I could save a little bit by internet ordering, and they have been pretty fair about things like that in return. but I know it depends on the dealership.

IIRC, the tools cost about $40. I thought it was well worth the price for anyone doing their own work, especially when you consider shop rates for having it done.

Also works on RC51 and likely other Hondas.

I also bought a flywheel puller - indispensible.

I loaned mine to AZZKIKER and he sent them right back to me, which I thought was very cool! Thanks, Oscar!
