luggage options.......?

i'm looking for options on side bages. my bike has a rear
rack w/ a detachable soft bag....i think it's called a ventura
system....but i would be happier w/ side bags that locked,
and were easily detachable. is there anything like that available
for the superhawk?

I have the Ventura mounts and both their Sport & Pack racks. Modified the Sport rack by cutting off low "loop" & welding cross bar to restore strength (their "grab loop" fits into the mounts). Adapted a Givi type QD trunk box to the Sport rack and use the Pack rack with one or both of their Lg &/or Sm bags. Works great, and with my semi-soft rear paniers & tank bag (Held mag & Chase Harper strap mount) I have capacity for weeks in the (modded Sargent) saddle. Total investment for the Ventura system (bought slightly used) and tail trunk (JC Whitney) was under $250! BTW, rear paniers (saddle bags) increase drag significantly on the highway & widen you way-out in the city. Start with/look for (used) Ventura system and go from there.

I'm not sure how detachable they are, but I've always liked the look of Corbin Beetle Bags, if I were into that sort of thing. Hard, locking, custom-made to fit the stock-mounted exhaust and whatnot.

The beetle bags are ugly and useless due to small size and wacky shape. They are also very pricey. The best way to go is givi hard bags. They lock, are removable, waterproof, and you can pop on whatever size you need for that ride: 21 to 46 litres. I can put on 3 e460 (46 litre) bags. Each holds 2 full face helmets.

lol, well, obviously looks are up for personal preference, but I suppose I stand corrected on those beetle bags.

Here is a pic with just the top case but 2 more pop on the sides. Sorry about the harsh comment about those hideous beetle juice bags but they literally look like 2 little volkswagons.

I bought a GIVI rack and a compatible top box. That works out well

Side bags: I recently added a pair of medium JCWHITNEY bags when they were on sale. fastened the mount plate to the sides of the GIVI rack.

The problem with side bags is that some trimming of the seat cowl is required to keep the width reasonable. If the bags are a part time installation, the sleek looks of the Hawk are certainly compromised when the bags are off the bike.

I got a picture resized. If this works it will be there.

I worked in a honda shop for years and i always thought that GIVI put the best product out there. The Corbin bags are very very pricey. i couldnt see that much money in them. you should really look into those. i have a givi luggage rack and hard case on the back of mine. i love it. i have first gear soft bags for the side. they are good too, they hold a LOT of stuff, but kill my milage.

nnjhawk02 is an unknown quantity at this point
Unless ur traveling alot or just need to carry ur life around with ya - a Givi Top Case is plenty. I also sometimes use a Eclipse tank bag & also have an Eclipse Seat pack (but never use it). But Givi Top Case is the main carrying thingy.

People bust my chops (sportbikers) but function over form & when its 90 out & I stop to drink ice cold H2O, believe me, they wish they were me

Yeah I also use a magnetic tank bag that I have had since 2000 when I bought my first motorcycle, a 2000 Honda Rebel 250. Stop laughing. I paid cash and it got 80 miles a gallon. That bag has about 50,000 miles on it. I have carried so much stuff in that bag. Everthing from food, magazines and clothes to my wifes little lap dogs!

I can imagine one of my Labradors strapped across the tank.

I have two Chocolate Labs. Brother and sister. They ride everything I have except for the bike. They both sit on the rear rack of my ATV, they ride in the boat, truck, expedition, and tractor. They like to catch rats when I bush hog. But yes it is embarrassing telling everyone I put my wifes lap dog in the tankbag of my big manly superhawk.
