Thanks Cliff. I am in need of a more breathable leather jacket.

I have a nice Hondaline (not leather) with hard plastic over foam protectors but it gets roasting on a hot day, even with out the quilted liner.

Re: A little advice for a new SH owner

I bought a used Joe Rocket Speedmaster for $150. It might look ridiculous to some but the protection is great and it fits beautifully once I'm on the bike. I've no regrets getting the one piece.

http://www.helmetharbor.com/streetcl...ts/opening.htm

Its heavily preforated, so I need to cover with raingear when its below 50f.

Check at the local racetrack, someones always selling their old leathers.

That is a great deal...I don't think I could get away with the one piece, cause I am larger on top, so I will have to do seperates....Great suit though....

Re: A little advice for a new SH owner

Don't get anything. Ride it for a while, learn your new bike then decide what you want to improve. When you've accomplished that, make your own list of those things. We'll help you decide on products from there.

IMHO you mod a bike to acheive an end, not just because. Want to achieve a more proper sag, get springs. Want to change airflow, consider a different windscreen. Want more power, consider a jet kit. Want better sound, get a slip on. Want better grip, consider tires. The list is long, depending on what you want to accomplish.

Want to blow a lot of money for stuff that may or may not benefit you, ask about mods on the internet.

Jim, you're such a buzz kill. But he's right there are a million mods and the best ones are the ones that make you happiest. My personal favorites are suspension.

Suspension, suspension and SUSPENSION, as others have mentioned.

Best mod you can do for the SH.

Best mod for you, gear, gear and GEAR!

I believe I'm the first "buzz kill" on this thread. See page one. LOL

Re: A little advice for a new SH owner

***The Essentials***
1.) Slip-on exhaust with jet kit installation ( I prefer D&D slip-on, though that might be a tad loud for some persons' tastes)

2.) Race Tech fork springs (with gold valve mod.)

3.) Penske rear shock (with gas canister)

***Nice but Not Essential***
4.) Sargent seat (much better than the Corbin VTR seat, which tends to split at the seams and does not have a custom, lower-profile seat pan, as the Sargent seat does)

5.) Engine work (cams, light-weight valves, JE forged pistons, ported-and- polished heads) [~$2000-$3000]

Those are some damn expensive essentials amigo. I prefer the "value" ones, i.e. the ones that offer you noticeable difference with less than $100 invested. We should make a separate topic for this, but it would include:

*Aftermarket turn signals
*Front/Rear Sprockets
*Mirror extenders
*Stainless brake lines
*Stronger headlight bulb
*Tank protector
*Frame Sliders
*Aftermarket airfilter (not sure how necessary it is on a stock setup)

Anyway, IMO you should make any mod's until you know why you are changing what you are changing. None of those above mods are required, and it all depends how you ride.

I still have to say keeping your investment safe should be Number One on the list of things you need to do. Maybe I'm just being a little paranoid living in a place where the property crime is rated 374 compared to the national average of 78.

Re: A little advice for a new SH owner

So far I've done a couple cheap mods...about $20 total. Flush mount lp turn signals up front that look great, a self mod with the rear fender that was free and looks great, and two holes in the rear baffle that make it sound a little better( just don't want to do too much to the pipes and mess them up). Currently looking for some used pipes on Ebay(almost daily). I have riden the bike about a thousand miles so far and really love it but have 2 questions.
1. What kind of difference does the front suspension mods make? Do you have to ride real fast or on track to make a difference? So far mine feels ok...but I haven't pushed her real hard yet. I am a bigger guy at 6'3 and 215 w/o gear.
2. I do notice that my wrist sometimes get a little sore and occasionaly feel like they want to fall asleep. Do heli bars fix this?
Thanks for looking and thanks for all the great advice so far.

Heli bard would raise the handlebars a little for you and will help the sore wrists. I am 6 feet tall and never had any problems with my wrists . I have the stock handlebars. You need to support your torsa with your abs a little and kinda manage your weight. Try not to bend your wrists on the handlebars. It makes a difference.
