A little advice/question

Thinking about buying a Superhawk, so I figured I'd visit this board.

Amongst the modifications that I would make (the typical ones: PAIR, exhaust, re-jet, etc.) and accessories I'd like to add (front and rear stands with spools, frame sliders, double bubble windscreen), there doesn't seem to be a thread (like say over at Gixxer.com or CBRWorld.net) that has a list of parts suppliers for each type of part.

A lot of listings on that one thread are either antiquated or not helpful in terms of finding specific parts.

It's a shame really, if this were a better source of real information, my decision would be easy to make.

Unfortunately, unlike a gixxer or cbr, the aftermarket world is nowhere near as big for the vtr. Yes, there are quite alot of options but not like those models.

I agree it would be a great sticky but we (as a collective group) aren't lemmings and march lock step in one direction on mods. We don't agonize over getting that last .3hp from one exhaust over another, etc.

Bottom line is the bike is a great basis to build or design anything you want to do. I made superbling into a sport-touring mile eater that still ate the curves willingly.

drew - this is a forum for a motorcycle make/model. As such, one would ordinarily think that there would be a list like this

Exhaust Suppliers
PAIR Block Off Suppliers
Frame Slider suppliers
Brake Line Suppliers

Like practically every other forum for makes and models on the interwebs.

But if you want to be unfriendly and obtuse, feel free.

Milosh,
Check:
http://home.nycap.rr.com/ghlbo/index.html

hawkriders page, been of great help on top of this forum.

May take a bit to get in the groove with the sense of humor of the folks here. I am still new, but my expirience with this forum has been nothing but outstanding. Give it a shot, great folks and a great wealth of knowledge.

Hey Milosh,

To be honest, I was a bit taken back by the:

"It's a shame really, if this were a better source of real information, my decision would be easy to make."

People on this site are pretty proud of their bikes, and the community we have here (and that line while maybe not intended) came across a bit harsh... Regardless... I think you'd find this site and the bike a pleasurable experience... As this site is by far the most informative place I've found for the VTR.. and the people are very helpful, as I've seen members given parts for free or next to free compared to what you might find on other sites or Fleabay.

Granted there aren't alot of "bells and whistles" on this site that you might find on other places... but the info is there if your willing to search and/or ask... I've had almost every question answered I've had for a RC front end swap, RC caliper/MC swap on stock forks, VFR swingarm swap, fork rebuild, etc... and those aren't basic mods.

Stick around and search a bit... you'll like it here... and the bike.

j.

Actually as I read things, you are the one coming to this forum and criticizing it for not having information the way you want it. You got a response saying things aren't that way and you find that obtuse and unfriendly? I find appearing as a new member and giving everyone a ration unfriendly and obnoxious.

Personally, I don't consider where to buy my parts a source of REAL information, more like minutia. Real info comes in the form of help with a custom mod or troubleshooting bike troubles. If my bike doesn’t work right, a supplier is the least of my worries. Knowing where to start looking for the problem is my main concern.

honestly I just assumed this was a troll post - its odd if you're a frequent enthusiast forum user to come to a site that you've contributed nothing to, and start with an insulting thread. I honestly doubt there is any better source of information. And of the bike sites I participate in I have yet to encounter a better source of info - you name it and its usually been done or posted about by someone with good information. A few of the people who really oversee and maintain this site probably put an incredible amount of time into it and there are so many others more than happy to help anyone with a real question or interest - and I genuinely mean people who go out of their way to help you. So, just introduce yourself and ask your question.

Life is always supposed to be easy for you. That's why we all own Superhawks and you don't.

You impress me as someone who would be challenged to find their way out of brown-paper grocery sack.

And if you would have searched, Places to buy PAIR Removal Kits was just brought up, tons of exhaust threads, windshield discussions, Jet kits and what ever you need to know. Stop being lazy, click the search button and find what you need, or just ask.. we are pretty friendly here, as stated before.

Therein lies the problem. The superhawk isn't like a CBR or GSXR.

They dont even draw the same type of crowds. Nuff said

I'll be a bit harsher: If you can't do a little digging on your own and find out more about your prospective purchase, then get a squid bike and get bent.

This is the best board around as far as I'm concerned (except for the fact that I act like a newbie ). Too bad our common ground, the Superhawk, is a largely forgotten and ignored relic.

Attitude is everything. , until shown otherwise Milosh is a troll in my book.

1st post, complaining about how this forum is not up to his standards and the group of sheeple at other places he visits. ..LOL.. ok, IMHO, that’s a good thing.
Milosh, if your not a troll, then fine.

Look around, find the info you want and ask your questions.... just don’t expect much help in return if you add a jab at the people that are this site in every one of your posts.

Perhaps your right, the GSXR , CBR crowd is better....smarter, faster, what ever...you should buy one of those bikes

Supplier lists are kind of useless. Some people don't care about customer service and only want the cheapest price, while others are quite the opposite. My local shop matches and/or beats the mail order/internet prices, so I don't even bother unless they can't get it. There are used exhaust systems on this forum all of the time, and all of the technical articles are extremely detailed, i.e., search for the CCT installation writeup and you will see photos with detailed descriptions. Those are the most useful threads, and in reality, all of your questions have numerous answers via the search function, or does that feature suck as well compared to the CBR/Gixxer Forums?

Gixxer/CBR FAQ:

1) Where can I get a 12 O'clock bar cheeeep?
2) Fur: how much is enough?
3) What's the baddest light kit color?
4) How do you do a burnout?
5) Why is my rear tire square?
6) Help: I can't do a stoppie/brakie?
7) Oakleys or RayBans; I can't decide
8) Help: Even backwards my cap keeps flying off.
9) Which is better slaps or thongs?
10) What's a chickenstrip?

Definitely not the majority here huh.... Didn't buy my SH for any of the above reasons. Not saying there is anything wrong with some of them just not for me.
