Leaky Forks???
I just had my forks serviced and some racetech .95 springs put in. I noticed when I put them back on the bike a little oil came out of the top of the lower half of the fork. I wiped it away and as I was setting the sag and compressing the forks a small amount came out each time I pushed down.
Is this normal?? Should I have the shop rebuild them? Can I ride a track day like this?
I had them rebuilt specificaly because I have a track day next monday the 23rd and also sunday the 29th. Is this a problem that can wait or do I have to solve it ASAP???
Thanks for any advise

Re: Leaky Forks???
Nope, not normal. I've had mine apart about 3 times in the last 6 months going from a 1.0 down to a .85 and then back to a .90 spring along with adding RT gold valves and changing out different weight fluids.
What do you mean by "serviced"? Did they install new seals?
How strict is the tracks' tech session?

Re: Leaky Forks???
He did install new seals and changed the fork oil. Im not sure how strict the inspection will be as it is my first with either organizations. I should be fine for the 23rd as I know 5 of the "instructors" and could probably have them rebuilt by the 29th. Ill call the shop tomorrow and see what he says, otherwise I will hound my local "Club Guru" to help me put them together right.
What would cause the leaking??? I know the ansewr is probably a few things but are there any to look for specifically?

Re: Leaky Forks???
On a hunch I just went out and bounced on the forks a few times. The first time there was a tiny amount of oil. I wiped it away and continued. Now there is no more oil comming out. I know it hasnt all drained out so Im wondering could there have been too much added? Or more likely some got where it shouldnt have and made its way out the seal?? The temp here in Southern California hasnt changed much since the problem appeared a couple hours ago so it isnt a viscosity thing. Any thoughts???

There is a problem. Seals either leak or they don't. There is no in between and there is no leaks a little bit after repair.
During assembly, the seals are lubricated with a little fork oil to aid in assembly. Its rubbed on with a finger. Is that the sort of amount you are talking about? It would be a tiny bit.
Seals will sometimes fail after R&R. But it would have to be filled way too high to the top to force any out on compression.
Another liklihood is that the wrong seals were used.

A buddy of mine installed some seals on mine & they leaked. The seals I had bought had some additional metal seals/shims in the kit. They were somewhat different than the stock seals. I told him to be sure & follow the instructions, but...you know how that works. He never read the instructions & so threw out the "extra" parts! Not confidence inspiring.
And don't get me started on mechanics & brakes!

Re: Leaky Forks???
I got to ride the bike a bit today and there is no sign of any leakage. Im thinking either it was the excess he used to slip the seals/bushings on as well as them not being seated and mabey the fact that they had been laying on their sides for a few hours. If I see any more signs of leakage I will tear them apart and rebuild 'em Thanks for the input guys
