Dood, I answered the questions you asked.
Here's my quicky, subjective, take on the VFR800 (mine was an '02).
Negative:
Too heavy.
Underpowered.
Linked brakes suck.
Handle bar position too low for my Ol' Geezer body.
Positive:
200+ miles on a full tank.
Sounded like a sprint car after I put Staintunes on it.
Good lookin' unit.

I have a 98 Superhawk and a 97 Interceptor. As a man I have to admit that I've never had just one girlfriend - the bikes are a mechanized reflection. My sig line is an effort that spans decades of reading, about two weeks of distillery, and two days of execution. My Superhawk is a direct reflection of who and what I am.
The other side of me flirts with a ballerina. My 97 is the last of the carbed bikes and has the gear-driven cams. Wet it's catalog is 460 pounds which is a twinkie by today's standards. It has a high-mount D&D which makes it sound like is described above - a NASCAR racer. I love it - bitches on cell phones hate it. It lays into the corners so easy it just begs for the wrist. GSXR riders pass me hanging off, maybe doing 5+, I sit square in the saddle and can be quite comfortable letting them go.
I go 167 - 176 miles per tank and I fill with medium grade for $12. It's top speed is 160 mph confirmed by local pd. It's super easy on tires and a great performer two-up. Gobs of power but not the short/quick of the Superhawk. That said it did a pretty good job of chasing down a 500GT Mustang recently in about a eighth mile run. Guy gets out of the Mustang, pats me on the back and says, "Not bad for four wheels right?"
Then I took off my helmet.

I like how those newer VFRs with the old paint scheme look. (I grew up on the original Interceptors and always thought they looked good.) I had a VF700F (exploding cam model) and later a VFR700 (skinny fork / stupid front rim model) and a buddy had a VFR750, 97 (I think)(probably the best of the breed from where I stand).
(Though people do mad things to the VFR700... Install YZF600R forks, CBR shock... with a little work it's lighter than the SH and has nearly the same power. Newer ones are much, much heavier.)
I love how these bikes sound and they're very appealing in a lot of ways, but for the money I'd rather have a Triumph. Best of both worlds is the setup Nuhawk has, of course. 'guy on another forum I used to be on had a GSXR and a VFR. Whenever people gave him sh*t about the Honda he'd say, "Man's got to have a truck."

pwshadow,
I used to own a 93 VFR, and thought this thread may offer some insight for you: https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=14575. I know it's not the 800, but the responses would probably still apply.
