How much would you Pay for a

HI all

I have a friend who has a line on the black box used by Kiyo Watanabe

Not sure if this is a Honda racing black box or not.

Spark Unit complete (Ignition black box)

This "black box" replacement will boost power and RPM rev limits. Different spark unit advances ignition curve, providing increased timing and rev limit at the "wide-open throttle" position.
Price - $450

I am in the process of finishing up a stage one motor with these parts. Thinking 10 to 15 present increase in HP

  • Oversized 11.5-1 J-E Pistons
  • Moriwaki Stage one Cams
  • Heads Ported & Polish on a flow bench by a shop that specializes in Ducati V-Twin
  • Adjustable Cam Gears
  • All new bearings
  • Lightened flywheel
  • Balanced flywheel, crank, rods & pistons
  • Doctor Honda Velocity stacks
  • Factory Pro Shift Kit
So do you think I would benefit enough to pay that kind of price.

wasn't there some info about 1st-gen SH that needed (or could make good use of) ignition advance....but the latter bikes not so much?

Not sure if its worth it but pretty sure it does a lot more than advance ignition.

If I was spending all that money on a stage engine, the ignition would be the next logical step. If you don't buy it man, I will! I will have the same engine

Smokin', I thought they (HRC) had a different ignition curve and removed the rev limiter?

Yes it does ignition but I don't believe its just a linear advance. I could be wrong but my (limited) understanding is that there is a bit more to it than that.

It is likely the HRC box (like I have). As some have noted, beware the absence of a rev limiter (cost me a set of cams). FWIW, there is a new one listed on Yahoo Japan Auctions. eBay Japan site for about $150 IIRC...... You could also consider going the Ignitech programmable ECU route for less than $450......
