Oh, just noticed LauraLynn's post too. Laura, you must complete either the SS1K or the BB1500 before you can do the BBG1500. If you've not done any long distance riding before, I'd suggest you start doing a number of prep rides. I've done several days of 1500+ miles on the XX and it takes it out of you pretty badly physically. If you're not pretty fit and use to long distance riding, it would be a bad thing to try doing 1500 miles in a sitting. I'm on the stupid end of fitness - I train 4-5 hours a day 5-6 days a week and I do mostly long distance riding, and that long a ride still takes quite a big toll on the body.

Hi Mithrandir,
I was reading your website

http://www.vlc.com.au/~justin/about/bikes/

on suspension mods and came across what looks like a typo,

Quote
"Keeping the forks fully extended with the springs still in the fork, place the syringe into the fork, resting the flat base of the rim of the fork slider tube. Place it on the lower side of the tube too (ie the side closest to the tank and seat). Draw out oil using the syringe in this fashion until all you end up sucking is air. This will not have correctly set your oil height. Move to the other fork and repeat the process. "

I've always set fork fluid height with the springs out and forks fully compressed.

Darn. Thanks! I meant to fix that up a while ago. Someone else reminded me about that and I completely forgot about it. These last couple of months have been hectic. I'll go fix that right now.

My shawk is pleasure use only, I drive a company service van for Xerox.
I just got back from visiting my brother in San Rafael.
I try to take backroads as much as possible and it works out to about 1100 miles in two days. I guess I do a lot of overnighters to San Rafael and full day rides that have been consistantly adding miles for the 7 years I've had the shawk.
I was surprised to see the odometer reads in six ditgits.
I have 132.K on the shawk now, American Honda said I was the first they'd heard of to hit 100.K on a shawk.

VERY impressive!!!

Thanks for posting the pics or I prolly wouldnt have believed it myself...

what, if any maintenance ( major things in mind) have you had to do to keep it up thus far? or is it all original? maybe be a stupic Q... but curious on how much work you have had to do to get to the 100K mark....

At the rate Im going, I may hit that in less than 2 years now....

I wnat to know what Im in for...thanks

I bought my '98 in 10/2001 with 3500 miles on it. I have as of today 40,280. the only thing I had to replace was the regulator/rectifier.

I've had mine since new in '98. Commuted 30 miles each way to flight school. Racked up 8000 miles in the first 2 years. Then it basically sat in Hawaii when I moved out there- and it's been garaged for 3 deployements, but then did the same commute when I was a flight instructor. Last spring I'm back to a 25 mile commute from Virginia Beach to Norfolk- all HOV lanes for me! Up to 24,000 miles and still going strong. I'm getting a little older so I have helibars, and a throttlemeiser sitting at home waiting for me to install them. My right hand goes numb after 20 miles of riding- I thought I would get used to it, but after 8 years, I haven't.

Problems: Regulator/rectifier, water pump blew a seal, cam chain tensioners.

Cool

Does the Superhawk seem to be a good commuter since the fuel consumtion seems to be higher than other bikes.

My 1989 Honda CB-1 takes approx. 3 gal. to fill up from near empty, travels approx. 130-150 miles per tankful. That's more than the range on my Superhawk.

I just rolled 55,000 on my 98. I average anywhere from 60 to 90 miles 6 days a week. Then once a month I go on a group ride the shortest one was 100 miles the longest was 275. It only had 10,000 when I got it two years ago.

CaffeineRacer (Jeff)-
I've meet you a few times up in the Santa Monica's! I haven't seen you out there in probably 2 years! Glad to see you here!

I commute 100-110 a day (depending on which route I take). I wish I could claim it's twistie's/backroads, it's all freeway/lane splitting, but I try to look at the bright side...I get to ride for 2 hours a day, year round. Not many people can claim that!

High Mileage?

115,000km on my 99VTR, so far.

Replaced CCTs; rear wheel bearings (twice); tires and chains. Lots of tires.

Daily commute of 120km round trip, plus weekend back road carving and 4 or 5 weekend tours each season.
