HID Headlight?

Has anyone used one of these HID conversion kits on their SHawk? It wouldn't change the draw on the electrical system and I think it would look pretty cool.

Which conversion kit are you referring to?

I used a McCulloch's HID kit designed for an H4-type bulb. I had no problems whatsoever. The light pattern seemed a bit off (not entirely focused), but the increase in lighting negated that problem.

I was gonna use something like this kit I found on Ebay. I already ordered one of the same brand for my car but I didn't know if visibility would change on the bike. So I am guessing from your experience that it does not make night riding more of a pain.

Riding at night is much better with HID lights. There is a bit more glare coming off the headlight (not a problem for you, but for other drivers), but it's not blinding.

I also used aftermarket bulbs, and they were much better than stock. However, the HID lights were much better than aftermarket bulbs.

You don't want to completely blind 'em - just a little bit so they know you are there, but not enough that they veer into you. =O

read this, then explain why you would pay extra for inferior lighting.

Very simply put "LOOKS". IMO HID lamps give you that custom look and now that I have them on my car I can say that they do give you a much better view at night. With a slight adjustment of the pitch of my headlamps the distance issue was gone. I have had these on my car now for 3 days now and I do almost all my driving at night and not one time have I been "flashed" by other drivers thinking my headlamps were in the high beam position. I read both articles on the above link and find absolutely no reason to think these kits are unsafe. HID lamps run at a cooler temperature than any filament style bulb. With the electrical issue I would have to say that any competent installer could easily install an HID conversion kit to almost any legitimate application. The beauty about the kit I purchased is that if law enforcement would stop me for my headlights I could very easily swap out the bulbs and plug the factory lamp connection right back in and return the light back to the stock form.
