Getting Ready for Riding Season - 2014

So with an almost 12 yr. old moto & not ready (nor able) to get a different one, I made some changes for the upcoming season.

1. Drop some weight - from me not the moto - just too heavy, mostly due to auto accident 2 yrs ago & the inability to run or even walk too much now, but have a nice mtn bike that needs usage. Thus soon as Ole Man Winter decides to head farther North and the roads get cleaned up a bit - I'll head out. This will help me fit into gear better too - Woof the jacket is tight around the mid section.

2. New magnetic tank bag - Cortech Super 2.0 - 18 liter

3. New LED headlight bulb - just got it and will do a before & after photo shoot (maybe tonight)

4. Somewhat new tires - installed last year, but was recovering from another surgery, thus didn't ride on them too much to form an opinion - Mich. PR2s.

5. Might need a battery

after that everything is tip top - the K&N was cleaned last Fall, oil was changed. Plugs have very little miles on them.

Next - dreaming of road trips

West Va for sure, Upstate NY - into areas I've not been before, like Finger Lakes and even exploring into Pa that, I've either been once or not at all. (Pa is great - usually very low LEO presence when not on hiways)

So SuperHawkers & FireStormers - clean up your act and get ready to ride - these are some of the best moto's, regardless of the age.

Stay Safe & Ride at your Own Pace, with proper Gear!!

I just finally got my bike road worthy after a year and a half (it was totalled) and took it out for a spin the other day... 23° and froze my nuts off but i didnt care :-P

Im going to post a thread about the changes made soon so keep an eye out for that.

I am also planning a road trip, one of the stops will be to the binghamton, NY area, and then PA(used to go to school in PA)...

Anyways, safe riding this season, maybe our paths will cross.

Ohhh there's one individual I'd like to kick his ars if I cross paths with him.
Damn, it's the first day of Spring tomorrow, and we will get dumped on another 15-20cm of snow, only to get another 5-10cm on Saturday.

WTF ! Can we get a little sunshine and warmth in the air ? After Saturdays dumping, the temps are going to plummet again in the low teens. It sure isn't Spring of 2012...

I got a AGM (gel) battery on ebay for around $35, shipped from California.
I like the gel batteries because they don't care if you tip them over.

If you buy a normal lead-acid battery on ebay, they don't ship it with acid. They ship it dry with no acid, and you have to find someone (Cycle Gear) to fill it for you.
Acid can't be shipped evidently. What a total PIA. Ask me how I know.

nnjhawk02, what part of PA are you living?

I'd like to do some longer trips this year, although the only street ride I have right now is an XT350 modded for road duty, it's good on anything but the highway.

Same here. Commute pretty much all year so bike is always ready to ride. At most might go couple weeks without riding but that is more to me getting lazy about getting my stuff ready the night before a commute.

Rhino, a trip to the finger lakes is on our short list also. Love the Red Cat!!

All my pre season tuning got by-passed rebuilding a "basket case" 94cc chainsaw! Gotta give the Hawk some love soon. I have a 900 swingarm sitting in the basement...need a new front hoop and the list goes on. Weeks are just flying by lately.

Regardless of where ya are, stay safe. People that ride in the northern parts have to really watch out for cages that aren't used to seeing/not seeing bikes for a while, plus we still have tons of cinders/salts on the roads.

Finger lakes are an amazing spot to visit. Used to alway be my overnight point between NYC and my fam in Buffalo. You can get a little cabin in Seneca lodge for real cheap and a georgeous lake veiw.

The roads around here are still beyond terrible, and the weather doesn't look like it's changing anytime soon. I'm hoping maybe some of the rain coming will be enough to wash away a good amount of sand.

An oil change, chain cleaning / adjustment, and maybe some sea-foam with fresh gas since I forgot to drain the carbs is hopefully all I'll need to get on the road. I want to tweak the suspension this season but I think that will wait a bit until I read up a bit more. I'm beyond ready for this winter to be over.
