Gauge clusters / aftermarket instruments

I'm looking for an aftermarket gauge with speedo, tach, and all the normal warning lights. This is for the XS750 cafe project. Since I'm swapping the VTR front end onto the bike I'm losing the speedo drive and I'm going to need something to replace it. I've only found one company so far that's reasonable (Acewell { www.acewell-meter.com } sold in the US by Electrosport) but if anyone knows of others out there I'd appreciate a link or two.

Don't know what your range is for "reasonable" but here are some that I found when doing mine. I went with the first one but has issues with tach registration and ultimately used another honda unit:

I can highly recommend the Trail Tech "Vapor", it's been on my XR650R for about two years now and it has so many features it's unreal.
They also have a warning/indicator light base that should cover all your needs.

Not fond of the Veypor. The Koso looks nice but is more than I need for some models (and expensive) and no tach for the one that is reasonable. The egauges ones don't have idiot lights and the Trailtech Vapor doesn't either.

Looks like I'm probably going to go with the Acewell. It's a helluva deal for $150.

Thanks for the input guys. Needed to know that I didn't miss something else out there.

The Trail Tech Vapor itself does not have the idiot lights but they do have an "Indicator Dashboard" available that has every function you'll need.
The Vapor has programmable shift lights, yes two; programmable high water temp lights, again two, a clock, tripmeter, odometer, hour meter etc.
It's a breeze to install and looks good to boot.

At least give it another look.

Hmm, didn't notice that piece. That changes things, but only slightly. I don't see a backlight on the Vapor. How am I to ride at night?

Well that settles it. Acewell is bought. It just seems more intuitive to me. They are pretty much the same unit with the exception of the backlight. Even the price is the same.

Has anyone heard of Starlane? They have some pretty cool products. The Athon model is about $550, but they have some in the $1k range too...a bit over my head. The Athon says it's wireless--fed off GPS for speedo and the tach can be wired to factory or just place pickup near ignition somehow....might be worth looking at.

Here's a couple links also...

They should advertise it better. Didn't see anywhere in their online literature that said it. Too late anyway. I ordered the Acewell yesterday.

Will do. I'll be posting pics of Alice (the Cafe project) as it comes along.

Hawkrider,

what instrument cluster did you go with? How difficult was it to install?

I'm converting my hawk into a street fighter...or should i say, its already a streetfighter but I want it to look cleaner. I still have the factory gauge cluster on mine and i want to get something else.
