I'm interested in the later gauge cluster. It looks a little dirty but OK other than that. Can you comment anymore on it's condition? Does everything on it work? You wouldn't happen to have the plug for the back of it do you?

It is in great shape. I plugged it in when I got it and everything worked but put the other one back on when I realized it wasn't the cluster. I had to swap to the later temp sending unit when I did my cluster swap. Sorry no plug for the back just the cluster. When I get back this evening I will plug it in and get pics of it on.

Thanks,

Verne

Looks like you have it in a 98 as well. What did you do for the plug?

I bought a wiring harness off ebay and cut the plug off and wired it in. Just cross referenced the two wiring diagrams and hooked everything to the plug leads.

I have had this done for 3 or 4 years now with the only 2 issues being having to change out to the newer temp sending unit and the gas gauge not working exactly right. I swapped out the fuel gauge sending unit also but the vent tube is routed different on the '98 tank so you have to bend the float around and it doesn't use it's full range but I use the odometer for gas any way so no biggie.

So what's the difference in the fuel level sending unit? Is it just the ohm loads are different? And you just get the coolant temp sending unit for the later one or is there a different one you can get at say NAPA or another car parts place?

Earlier model fuel sender is a switch, RLOD on or off... Newer is a pot that tells the gauges which bar... So you will need the never model...

OK so I have a wire harness coming for this from a used '01 to get the correct plug for the back of the dash. So my other question is I know it's a lot of work swapping out a complete wire harness but are all the other connections on it the same? So if I didn't want to cut the connector off would I be able to swap the harness and everything else plug into it fine?

GTS you can get replacement plugs here Corsa Technic Motorsport, Motorcycle Connectors

Then wire the plug in and plug into you bike (so its always compatible with a stock dash. It would be a waste to spend days putting a new harness or cutting a complete harness.

Agreed but I thought in your other thread it was said they didn't have the actual plug that plugs into the factory late model dash. Just the ones that plugged into our early model harness. If they have the correct ones for the dash can you please direct me to which one it is? I haven't seen the dash yet so I'm not sure which ones they are. Also honestly I haven't looked at our factory ones close either to be able to pinpoint which ones they are on the site. Thanks!

A wire harness swap should only take a couple hours. I just like unmolested factory wiring so I'll generaly take the extra time to do so. Hacked up wiring is one of my big pet peves.
