Gas mileage

Alright we all know that the superhawk isn't exactly the best on fuel mileage.

I love the torque of the twin and the feel, but like I said the gas mileage is killing me.

I have had the bike for 2 years and I have over 10K mies on it. With gas currently being 229 a gallon - Thats a lot of gas $.

My bike is all stock (engine wise) except for yosh rs-3 cans and a jet kit. Put on less than 6 months ago. Before ht jst kit and after it, I get maby 100 miles till she is empty.

Figuring a 5 gallon tank (spec is 4.9) that is about 20mpg.

Does anyone else see a problem with this??????????

Re: Gas mileage

I have Two Brothers exhaust on mine and it's jetted. I usually get between 35 and 40 mpg as long as i dont ride it hard all the time. When i check my mileage I just fill the tank to the same point each time and look on the pump for how many gallons I put in.

Wow! Thanks for reassuring me that I don't want a jet kit. I'd like the power gains, but this is also my commuter.

I convince my wife to let me buy gear by telling her how much I save riding the hawk at 30 mpg vs my truck at 16 mpg.

Re: Gas mileage

Im new here too... and have been reading all I can on my SH....

First V-Twin I have owned and I love it!!!

I bought it with some mods.... Carbon Fiber Two Brothers cans and jetted... + 2 on the rear sprocket. ( just for background)

I ride 65 miles one way to work at $2.65 a gallon

Not including the lil putting around I do during the day I wind up around 140 miles a day on the average.

I was getting around 130 miles to a tank and fill 3.8 gallons with the +2 sprocket. I changed it from 43 back to 41 and now I get close to 145 on the tank and 3.6 to fill.

Now I know that the the speedo on these are not that accurate, but thats a pretty hefty improvement in my book

BTW... 2000 VTR with 12K on the odo

I'd like to see pics of your bike with your TBR exhaust. They sound awesome. Best I've heard so far.

Re: Gas mileage

Hell I just scotch brighted my stock header back to the cans...took like 30 mins maybe to do...100% improvement in my opinion. Took all the water spots and crap off and gave them an nice patterned simi-shiney look. This was done like 2 months ago and they still look good. Its an option if you dont have the money for the Jet coating right away.

Re: Gas mileage

'02 w/7k miles - basically stock in terms of power/fuel related stuff except for exhaust.
I'm getting between 30 & 35mpg. Reserve blinker comes on around 100mi.
Cans are Two Brothers aluminum hi-mount
Stock aircleaner, haven't done the recommended 4 degree ignition advance (yet) but plan to soon, along with jetting & dynotune.

Re: Gas mileage

I get between 90 and 120 miles before the rlod starts blinking, depending on how I ride(usually 90) with 178f 181r main jets and shimmed needles. but it is a fun 90 miles i might add.

New to this bike, but for the first 3 or 4 fill ups, RLOD comes on around 115 and I'm getting 34 MPG.

So I can't really complain about the mileage at all. Better than the mustang I sold to buy the SH, 6-8MPG VS 35-40MPG?
Hate to inform you but with altered gearing, you odometer is incorrect and is reading higher so you mileage is actually lower than that. Get a sigma bc800 or similiar model cheap on ebay for really accurate readings.

Hey, I hear you. While there, I filled up my "micro" rental car for $60.00 USD!!!!! If I lived there, I'd own a motorcycle and one of those tiny smart cars.
