Front vs Rear cylinder head

So i bought a superhawk a few months back. Rode around on it for several months as an alternative to some of my other bikes. And of course the dreaded front CCT failed!! Took the bike apart and the head was messed up to the point where even my machine shop guy didnt want to mess with it. Something about the fact that its hard to install new valve guides in those heads (mine got trashed) and that it would be more in labor then buying a used head off ebay. Well on ebay the only heads up right now are rears!!! Thats what i get for slacking, i saw a few on there a couple weeks back but didnt pull the trigger as money was tight as we are mid race season at the moment.

Question is, is there a difference between the front and rear cylinder head? I see that they are two different part numbers but they appear to be awfully similar. Can i get away with throwing a rear on the front. Theres tons of rears on ebay.

Thanks guys!

Dave

Heres some pics of my valves after i took the head apart!

8541Hawk will become famous soon enough
Sorry but it won't work. The cam chain tensioner mount on the wrong side.

The casting is the same but the machine work makes them different front & rear

How much are they going for on Ebay? What's actually messed up on the head? Just the guides? Or is there actual other dammage? I can get the guides pressed in and out for you no problem at all. Just had mine done. I think your machine shop guy must just not know bikes very well or something. Do you need all 4 or just two guides replaced?

Just two, plus cut the new valves. Otherwise the head seems in good shape....How much labor you think that would cost?

I think it'd be about $100 to press the guides in and have the valve seats recut.
