Ever put you Helmet in the Dishwasher??

Funny you ask. I thought about it but have never done it.
I am going to wash the inside of my HJC this Saturday. I just take it outside and fill it full of soapy water, let it sit a few minutes, then rinse a bunch of times and then air dry.
Works for me.

Well I do dishwash(er) mine except it's in the kitchen sink with wool-lite. Fill 'er up, dunk it and swish around lots, and then let it soak for a bit. Water gets pretty nasty. Rinse, lather, repeat. Cleans entire helmet really well. Let dry and give the exterior a good wax afterwards.

I've never tried this, but I'm going to have to go with bad idea. All helmets really consist of is two layers of plastic with styrofoam in the middle. I wouldn't want to find out the hard way that very hot water did damage to the insulation protecting my nugget.
If the liner is removable, then just wash it. Clean the outside with soapy water, or windex. If the liner doesn't come all the way out, then buy a new helmet because that's gross.

i wash mine ( ones without the removable liner ) in the sink with a mild soap. the important part is to let it air dry. heat can ruin the expanded foam.
needless to say once you do this a few times your next helmet purchase will probably have a removable liner.

In my very younger years I had a few helmets that found there way into pools/lakes (BTW... dirtbikes don't handle so well in deep water!!!).... I'd suggest if you do wash your helmet, make sure you don't plan to ride for a few days, they take forever to dry out!!!!

been there done that.. nothing like putting on a wet helmet.. except maybe being at the lake and having to put on a cold, wet lifejacket after someone else used it...

This brings up a great story. I was sitting in class (Motorcycle Mechanics Institiute) and my ritual soda was sitting in front of me and my helmet was on the floor. Guess you know what happened next. Stupid me knocks the soda off the desk right into my helmet upside down and filled the whole thing with sweet cola refreshment. It was only the begining of class so it got to sit and soak for almost 4 hours before I could go home and wash it out. I just ended up taking out what liner i could and soaking it in the tub using some light detergent (woolite) massaging it in and rinsing. Never got any musty smell and got rid of all the dirt and sweat stains from last summer!!
