Anyone ever put a toggle on the radiator fan?

I thought it might be a good idea if it's not too much trouble. I'm concerned about how the fan doesn't kick on til she's roastin', and then stays on for a long time. Sometimes even after I've got her back in the breeze. With a toggle, if I know I'll be stuck for a while I could kick in the fan before she got so hot, and cut it off the moment I got out of first.

I saw someone selling OE type radiator fan switches that turn on earlier, I think on fleebay. They weren't cheap or I would have picked one up while checking em out.

I have a simple rocker switch hooked in to provide a ground when I want it to like in stop & go traffic - it will still function automatically though if you aren't paying attention to it...

That sounds even better.

A rocker switch, so providing ground fires it up huh? Does the sending unit have one or two wires? Where did you mount the switch?

interesting thought but i'd rather not mess with wiring for something like the radiators...just sounds like inviting problems to me

Just 1 wire on my '02. I have the rocker switch (plastic) glued to the underside of the brake master cylinder - also plastic so it doesn't show much. All the sensor does is create a ground through the radiator case when it hits the preset temperature.

I ride parade speed in the hot city daily & wouldnt live w/o a switch. The stock one comes on way too late. You can splice right into the sending unit on the right rad & mount the switch in the right fairing. This doesnt impede the normal functioning. I flip it on when the temp is a bit more than 1/2 way.
