Dumped the Hawk yesterday :(
Start by counting the rear teeth...that'll give us a clue. Front sprocket you'd have to remove the cover to tell. Stock rear is a 41 tooth. Stock front is a 16.
Glad you're ok. Glad to hear you were wearing the right gear. Get it roadworthy, and get back on it. The Hawk can bite you pretty hard in first gear, even in stock gearing. Lower that gearing at all, and it'll happily pile-drive you into the pavement if you aren't expecting it. Also, on a liter bike, especially a twin, abrupt throttle inputs in the lower gears (especially 1st) are going to get you a violent response. And yes, I agree that when you got thrown off balance, you likely fed in more throttle.
Best of luck the second time around!

Yeah because everyone who sells a used bike just loves getting calls from the buyer. Make sure to call past 11 on a weekday or on sunday morning. That will sweeten the deal.
Just count the teeth its your bike now...Remind me not to sell you anything.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned that the guy who sold the bike to me is a good buddy of mine so asking him is not a big deal. Regardless, I counted them already and confirmed with him as well that the sprockets are stock size.
If you want it a little snappier drop 1 tooth on the front. Only costs about $20 for an AFAM sprocket. It will hurt top end but Id rather have quicker acceleration 0-70 than riding at wharp speed. Another option is the 520 chain presuming yours is also stock (530). The 520 dont give more power but they free up some parasitic losses. Just food for thought down the road when you crave it (and gain experience ).
Forgot to mention, it will also make your speedo read faster than actual speed since the pick up is off the tranny and not the actual wheel speed. Speedohealer units are availible to correct this and some recall max speed.
