Question drivetrain issues

hi all, i have had my superhawk for about 2 mo. the issues that i am having are, when i accelerate rapidly the entire bike jumps and makes a clunking noise( does not happen on gradual acceleration), and during when i use the engine to slow, it makes a clunking noise like the chain is bunching around the sprocket and rattling. i have put about 3,500 mi. on it since purchase and it is sitting at just over 20,000 mi. any ideas as what to fix, DIY things if possible. just had chain replaced and all fluids filled and changed.

Assuming your chain is adjusted properly, perhaps worn out cush drive rubbers are your problem? Can you pinpoint where the clunking noise is coming from and how many times does it jump or what is the nature of the jumping?

And welcome to the forum.

My money is on the front sprocket being worn so round that the chain is jumping the sprocket teeth.

Thats the only thing I ever saw create that issue.

the noise is coming from the engine area, sounds like it comes from where the front sprocket is, as for the jumping, it is random as to how many times, but it happens all the way through the grear at higher/sudden rpm's. feels like the tire is not grabbing all the way. new tire w/ less than 2000 mi.

Take a photo of the front sprocket. I would agree with smokinjoe.

If it's jumping multiple times, I'm changing my answer. I'm on board with smokinjoe.

Was it doing this before the chain was replaced?

That is right in line with my diagnosis. If the front sprocket wasnt changed, it would have teeth that dont mesh evenly with that new bada$$ chain. As those lonely miles rolled by you like so many events in your life, the chain was hitting the worn teeth.

So with the new strong chain all over it like a cheap suit, the sprocket teeth wore.
(what chain want, chain get).

Yank off your front sprocket cover (I know you dont want to but do it anyway). Stare at your sprocket and post up a pick here.

Also ponder if anything was changed after your long ride. I..... (ahem) .....once installed a front sprocket the wrong way (it was offset) and had similar issues.

(but you didnt hear that from me. Dont tell anyone)

thetophatflash is an unknown quantity at this point
It could be viewed by taking off the chain guard and using a flashlight. Damage of this sort should be highly visible.

Moved it Crank!
I've had this sort of thing happen countless times when I was a young pup on a dirt bike with worn out sprockets. I learned to be light on the wrist to manage. If you can afford to, spend the money and get yourself a new set of sprockets. Pretty good bet your issue will go away with them changed and a properly adjusted chain.
