cam chain chatter... think I have it... :(

Just got back into town and went to pick up my bike. It sat for oh... 5-6 days. Nothing big. Well I start her up and when I go to leave almost immediately something sounds off.... Sounded like metal rattling or something. I limp over to the dealer which was a mile away. Get there and turn it off. Have a service guy listen and then I don't hear it anymore... Have someone else come out and nothing... It was fine the whole ride home but with being at 18k I might as well do them I think... :-\ can someone point me in the direction of the year of the new cct's and the gaskets I need? I know there's threads but there's so many to sort through... I'd like to maybe do this myself... I made an appointment and at the least said hey the forks need to be done, we'll do that and maybe the cct's

While they're in there, have them check the valves, too.

Are you referring to APE or OEM CCTs?

the newer oem cct's. how hard is it to check the valves. Is that something I'm going to be able to do myself or have to pay someone to do

btw found the part # and price for the oem cct. just need to find the gaskets I need. which I'm not seeing in any of the posts. I know the guys at the dealer mean well but They typically try and replace more then needed. Like wanting to replace the chain...

You can check the valves yourself. But if they're going to be taking the valve covers off, it's not hard to take a look at the valves.

Edit - Valve covers.

well I have an appointment but think I'd rather save the $$$ by doing it myself. I told them at the least they'll do my forks since those need to be done and appointments are hard to come by

Just to clarify, they are not going to have to remove the heads. They remove the valve covers.

Get the APEs. If you keep the bike for another 18k then you won't have to worry about replacing them again. That was the best upgrade I've done to the motor yet. She runs very quietly now, and I DID replace mine with updated OEM. 10k miles later the noise came back.

Thank you! I knew I was using the wrong words, but couldn't figure out the correct term.
