A big thanks to Cliby
A big thanks to Cliby
Well as some of you might remember I managed to throw my bike into the ditch in the middle of last year.
So after finally getting it all back together I ended up with a major issue. The bike wouldn't track straight. After pulling the front end 3 separate times to double check myself (or triple check....lol) and measuring the front end components the issue was isolated to the frame.
A quick PM to Bill and he loaned me his "special" tools for the motor mount bolts.
They arrived in a few days and I proceeded to loosen the motor mounts, hoping that a quick re-torque would get everything back in line.
It all started out well and the creaking and popping when loosing the front mount bolt made this sound like I was on the right track.
All was well until I tried to move the front adjuster bolt...... The damn thing was stuck and proceeded to have one of the "ears" break off instantly......
So now the project went from a quick re-torque to remove the frame and see what can be saved....
The only was to get it out was to take a torch and heat up the frame and then grab the bolt with some large channel locks and turn...... not a happy time.
After getting it out, I inspected the welded in bung and found it to be in pretty good shape ( a major thanks motor bike gods...) and after running a tap through it was good to go.
So now it was time to wait for the sloooooow Honda boat to bring me the odd ball part. In the down time I was able to take some frame measurements and found everything nice and straight.
After receiving the new bit, I spent the day putting it all back together. Then the big test, running it down the street and back. Problem solved....
So once again thanks Bill, you're a life saver (or at least a bike saver....lol) and the tools will be in the mail back to you this week.
I did find that I do have the slightest twist to the lower triple when I had everything apart. It's small enough that you can ride the bike and never notice it but as I know its there now...... I guess it's a good reason to save up for that Attack Performance triple now...
