back tire mounting backwards?
Those tires look ok to me, however, it's difficult to predict what will happen under the stress of track use. Everyone could say go for it cause it looks good and the SB will come unglued, or you could slap a rag on there that is scary to look at and it'll handle like a dream. Someone like trinc who does track days all the time will have more experience on what guys get away with running, but if you're smart(rot rough!), you'll use good tires to minimize the probabilities of failure. If you don't have the money to buy good tires, how are you gonna pay for damage to you and/or your bike? You'll need to get you old lady a second job.
The Power One is a track day tire, the follow up on PP Race... Sticky as hell, and unless there is cord peeping out you can abuse the hell out of it and it will still stick... The amount of miles before the cord peeps out is less though... It makes a roadtire seem slippery even when worn... That one looks more than OK for a day at the track still...

think about what your goal for the days is. brake later ? start your drive out a little early? higher entry speed? or do you want to do a few parade laps ?
have a tire that will help meet your goals.

Perfect thanks for the info guys. I'll toss the power one on the rear forwards just to be safe. And I think I may go and destroy that 16 in a smoke burnout :-)
It's not that I can't afford a new rear is just rather buy one on the new year. Having sank $2400 to rebuild my tranny hurt me a bit and is rather not spend more money than I need to. Plus if I dump the bike it'll give me a chance to do some winter upgrades lol

Agreed... While the tires look fine, and I'd personally stick them on and run them, I also would ride out and swap them to a new one when that was needed... Tires aren't the right place to be stingy... Use them, but plan to have new put on if needed at the track, and it's cheaper to bring your own than buying there...
New ones are going on next year. And the pirelli guy at the track is very gentle with his price we were surprised. Plus I doubt ill out ride that tire anyway I'm not that good. I just hope its not too cold that day
see if he has any take-offs.
i normally run dragon SC2's but had a chance to try dunlop N-techs... they were awesome... but after failing tech on the next trackday i had to buy a new set of dragons ( SC1 front, SC2 rear ) because the take-offs he had didn't look too good. this was the first time i'd ever riden a NEW DOT racing tire and was bitching at paying $425.00 until i had a couple of laps to scrub them in. omg, it was unreal what i was able to do... the front stuck like it was on rails and the rear took a pounding ( me being a bit ham fisted
that was and probably will be my best trackday.

wow 425 is a good price for the canadian guys, i think we pay twice as much for tires as you guys. we get a deal from time to time. theres a place called petes superbike and my buddy bought a set of bt016s for 300 to his door, i paid 320 from a place that had a sale on them and i picked them up, the next cheapest was the bike show at 480. usually theyre well over 500 for the pair. man i wish we got your prices here
ill see what he has kicking around when i get out there. ive toyed with the idea of running scrubs on the bike but id have to changed them 3 or 4 times a season from street riding and would likely get the same amount of time out of 1 set of new tires. so its a toss up for me.
ill definatly check and see what he has for old rubber, maybe ill find a little bit of gold in the old tire pile

) leaving darkies but never felt like it was going off, you could force it to step out with the throttle but came right back in line when you asked it to.

I flip street rears all the time. But I do it before one side is almost completely done, usually every 2 days or so. If you're doing a lot of trackdays invest in a set of warmers. They'll practically double the life of your tires, even if you're not running race tires.
Don't worry about buying $400/set race tires til you're pushing the limits of the $250/set street tires either, especially if you're still riding on the road. Race tires will last a little bit longer on the track, but they disintegrate on the streets.

interesting, have you had any weird peeling of the tire or anything that has been mentioned in this post?
warmers are gonna happen after the wedding along with a generator. for now ill just do a warmup lap. although i was caught off guard when i started to play chase with another rider who was parked beside me, he was on warmers and about 3 turns in i started to go after him and then realized i was on cold tires, lol.

cool man good to know. im gonna try to get on the track with my bt016. it had lots of side tire life left, and if that fails then ill get the power one swapped over at the track
