back tire mounting backwards?

my bt016 is almost bald and i wanna do one more track day this year but it wont pass tech. so my buddy gave me his pure rear scrub. the track were riding at has 12 turns. 3 of those turns are lefts. the right side of the tire has more wear than the left side because it was used on this track and he said that he heard that some guys will put the tire on backwards on this type of track and therefore get another track day or so out of it. has anyone heard of someone doing that? im pretty careful not to ride in the rain so rain channels arent a worry of mine, then again the pure doesnt really have any real rain channels, lol, so would i be safe to ride this tire backwards?

Turn that succa around. You're really not supposed to turn radials around once they are used in one direction, but it's probably gonna work. Just think, you could be a scientist for a day!

supposedly the belts wear directionally or maybe assume a certain bias that might compromise their ability to withstand reversal, but i'm sure desperados like yourself have done it and got away with it. Check with your better half and find out whether she gives a **** if you and/or your hawk lose a little skin.

I'm not sure about street tires, but it's SOP to turn race tires over.

I have done it many times with race tires but they are dots anyway so no different. Loudon is mostly lefts so I swap them to get another track day out of them. Never even heard of any ill results. Go ahead but realize you are slightly sacraficing a bit of rubber in those 3 turns on the worn side. I doubt you would notice.

Well id rather sacrifice a little bit of rubber on the left side than to have not enough for the right side by the end of the day, this tire needs to last me one more track day thats it

Damn there are some mixed answers here. Any other guys who race have any input on this matter?

It's common practice on the track to flip tires, however, try going to the STT forum and asking some of the guys there. STT promotes Michelin tires, so those guys would have some experience with running Pures.

And it's a big chest too. haha.

Uchi, if you weren't destroyin all those knee pucks, maybe you could afford some new tires. Think about it.

whenever you get to the track, ask them if you could go the other way so you won't have to run your tires backwards.

Blow up...Nope... Might buck you off into the scenery though if you push it too much...

I have done that with the PP 2CT's and PP Race which is the predecessors to the PP Pure and the PP One, and it works fine for track riding... Keep in mind that you kind of need to scrub it in in the new direction, even thought it's worn already... And depending on how worn they are, be careful in the corners where you use the worn side... There is a point where grip just dissapears...

makes me hesitant to try it now. damn it lol. maybe ill leave the 16 on, it has lots of side life just into the wear bars down the center. and ill bring this one just incase they wont let me run the 16.

thanks for all the info guys

also i have 2 more sets of pucks here both are pretty hard so they should last me a while still

if the center is close to the wear bars then i'd put the pure on backwards... the last thing you want to do is pull the rear tire and have to go through tech again... unless you change your own tires. ( tire venders seem to be VERY busy in the morning ). 1 time my tires didn't pass & had to buy a new set... missed 1/2 of the first session ( + had to pay track tire prices )

Matt. Running on the 25th at tmp. Gwb is hosting it I believe.

I'll take a picture of the pure and put it up and also of the 16 to get your opinions on them. My buddy ran a session at calabogie on them and then bought pirellis after so I'd imagine it would pass tech thy right side just has some good wear to it

all I know is that the race slicks that we used in fsae would chunk out at the lap joint if operated in the wrong direction. Take it for what it is worth, this stinky a-hole opinion.
