Anyone buy a Harbor Freight Motorcycle Lift

Motorcycle Lift Table, 1000 Lb. Capacity

I'm getting tired of breaking my back bending over to do routine maint. (I'm 6') and was considering the above lift. Got a coupon for $299 - any thoughts or suggestions for other lifts?

I went with a better lift as I do not trust anything from HF that has moving parts.. but have to admit, many folks I read about that have um, report no catastrophic failures.

Sorry no personal experience with the HF lift.. But in general... you will LOVE having a lift.
I like mine so much, Im buying a second one...so I do not have to keep switching out bikes while working on several in different stages of parts ordering and priority of work.

If you get one let us know how it works for you. I had a lift years ago and truly miss it so may consider something like this next year.

Looked at it and almost bought it, but the lost floor space killed the idea. I'll continue with just front and rear stands with a stool.

Just to poke the bear a bit...

You can park the bike on the lift daily.. assuming you keep your bike in the garage... you then have no loss of floor space.
You can easily slide the lift around the garage floor. to get it out of the way,
You can use it as a table when not using it as a lift, for a dual use deal.

Have 2 Handy Air lifts myself. I would look it over VERY closely for that price. If it looks cheesey, it is cheesey.

I've seen them in the HF store,, they are cheesey... but darn if folks don't think they work ok.

I'll take my Direct Lift any day,, the wheel clamp is better, the wheel stop is better, the control valve seems better, the air cylinder is US made vice what ever comes on the HF.... ect ect ect.. Yet still, folks that own the HF lift and use it a few times a month (or what ever light duty use is for them) speak well of it.... Best you've used is the best you know perhaps? Kind of deal...

Can't report on one of those but I have been using a Harbor Freight motorcycle jack for several larger Harleys for probably 5 years now and have never had a problem with it.

I appreciate all your responses so far, I'll wait and see if anyone has any manufacturer suggestions as well. If not I think I'm going to do it - plus I get a free mini flashlight out of the deal (cheesy I know but it is HF afterall)

"manufacturer suggestions"
as in what brand other than the HF?

I used a Handy Lift for years, loved it. I have a Direct Lift now and will get a second once my new shop is built.

I have one. I got it about 4 years ago. I haven't had any problems with it. I've lifted several bikes from dirt bikes to full dress harleys. I don't like a lot of their stuff, but I can't complain about the lift. I hope this helps.

I also have a Handy lift. The only thing I can recommend is be sure
you have a manual lock in position so you do not rely on the hydrolics
to hold your bike up.

I've had my Handy lift table since 1996 when it was still made in Marshalltown, IA. It does not have the rear drop-out but does have the wheel vise and dolly truck (to move it around). No issues except the PE washers in the air valve need to be replaced every few years (2,000+ lifts).

I've seen the HF lift and it's OK but with a 20% off coupon and on sale a friend got one for $235 but he does not use it much. For moderate to heavy use a "commercial/professional" type lift is needed. Some reinforce the table with 1/4" aluminum plate, or at least under where the side/center stand drops.

Below is a list albeit not complete of sources.

Shipping is the big nut to crack if you don't go HF or can pick-up.

Finally got around to picking this thing up. $299 plus tax. I've got an idea for the front wheel so I'm headed back out to the garage to play. Havent had the bike up there yet but so far I like what I see. (except for unloading the 317 lb pig out of my F150 - solo.)

Kendon Lift has always been my favorite!

They have gone up in price since I bought mine though.

I left out the straps just to make a pretty pic but I gotta say I'm glad I bought it.

E-man

Why'd you get rid of your Handy? Mines about almost 20 years old and knock on plastic, still does a Yeoman's job.

My son bought me the exact lift for Christmas three years ago. Because I'm old with bad knees. I had my doubts about HF "Throw Away" stuff. But, I use it almost every day and the only problem I've had is with the front wheel chock. It's not tall enough to securely steady a street bike. I purchased a roll in wheel chock, made it easily removeable. I love this lift. Other than having to pump it up by foot instead of air. It works great.

I have the HF one, obviously it's not the best, I worked on air pressured ones before, but can't bit it for the price, I did replace the wheel chock immediately and never had a problem with it for the last 5 years now, it's been a great tool!
