another new guy
Hey guys, whats happening, Im Tom.
I just joined a few days ago and I love the forum. Im more of a lurker but I thought I would at least introduce myself.
I have been riding for years, but I have been out of the scene for a for a few years. I have owned a few dirt bikes. I have had two street bikes aswell.
I owned a 1997 CBR 600F3. I was running Yoshi R&D exhaust, K&N filter and jetted of course. I also bumped the rear sproket up 2 teeth. I sold it due to a mechanical problem, The front tire would not stay ont he ground.
The second street bike was a 98 Ninja ZX6R, This was jetted, K&N filter and full Muzzy SS exhaust. full polished frame. I loved that bike but I was forced to sell it. Its been a few years about 4 years with no bike. The newest one just fell into my lap. Its a 99 Superhawk 996, and as I have read here its referred to as the chickenhawk. Its running with mods, V&H SSR pipes. filter, jets, Fox rear suspension, etc. Its got some miles but its runs great. This winter I will have to replace the waterpump seal, I am starting to get a small amount of weeping on the front of the block. At this point its not much of a problem and I don't have much of a riding season left here is New England. Over the winter I will be doing some more work to this beast. Over the winter I will be changing the exhaust out for some high mounted exhaust, maybe Jardine. I want something high, but keep the rear peg set. I am ordering an under tail kit from rumble imports, thats sexy. I have loved the look and sound of super hawk for a long time. OOOOOhh that V-twin sound and torque is amazing!
The funny part is I was looking for a cruiser. I was think of a Yamaha warrior 1700. I guess next year Ill get that one and have the two of them.
Well if you read this far, thanks, good meeting you guys, and lets keep it shiny side up-

Welcome to the addiction!
There are other bikes in the barn but there is only ONE Superhawk. The only chickenhawks around here are the kind bastards that bring her back in one piece and walk away shaking their heads.
Others here are right about the rear shock - more expensive than doing the forks but a real must. Our forum administrator is up there close to you - somewhat of suspension tuner. As the bike is new to you, one of your winter projects could be reworking or refreshing the front suspension to fit your size and riding habits. He can usually help with the tear down, what to look for, and what to do during the rebuild.
Chances are the PO did the front when he installed the AM shock in the rear. Greg can help you sort this out - it sounds stupid - it's not - makes a huge difference in the way the bike handles for you.
Anyway - don't be a stranger

i really dont ride hard and fast anymore. but I do love the feel of a sport bike. The new GF thinks I am not fat enough, or old enough for what she calls an old man bike. And she thinks the warrior is an old man bike. I guess I can complain with that at 32 right?
The plan is to tear in to is pretty heavily this winter. I think its going to reside in my living room. I guess thats the bonus of having my own house. I will be adding a garage later though
