2011 Track Day Plans

I thought it might be interesting to start a thread to compare track day dates. Folks may want to know who's gonna be where and at least introduce ourselves while we're out there having fun.

personally, my calendar and finances are looking pretty full for 2011, but I'm planning to make 3 track dates with NESBA. IF I have some other time, I may try to pick up some club dates at CMP as well.

Saturday April 23 at Road Atlanta
Saturday June 11 at Carolina Motorsports Park
Saturday August 20 at Virginia International Raceway (South course)

Ok, this is just sad. No one is going to the track this year, huh?

I might be going to VIR in July (5th?) for the CLASS school. I was the only superhawk there last year. That will most likely be my only track day next year.

I haven't done VIR before. it was on my list last year but got bumped for other financial priorities. I'm looking forward to a new location.

I've only done VIR so far, but I loved it. The CLASS school does the north course, which I thought was perfect for the superhawk. Lots of curves from slow to fast sweepers, elevation changes, and a "long enough" straight with a dog-leg. And the grounds are beautiful. I wish I lived closer to VIR or any track for that matter. Everything seems like it's 4 hours away or more, and I don't have a trailer.

I plan to go to the track a lot this year...Probably going to do most of my track days through MotorcycleXcitement. This year they are only having track days at Summit Point Main and Shenandoah, and New Jersey Motorsports Park(Thunderbolt).

My plan this year is to start racing my 1992 FZR600 in the WERA Vintage 7 class. The Mid-Atlantic WERA series splits 9 races between Summit Point Raceway WV, Nelson Ledges OH, BeaveRun PA, and V.I.R VA. I'm hoping to go to each of those tracks once this year to learn them, so that next year I can try to make them all.

I don't have my schedule worked out for the MotorcycleXcitement track days, so I won't post the entire schedule, but you can find it at www.motorcyclexcitement.com

I do trackdays with sportbiketracktime and really like their setup. My longtime riding friend (40 years and counting) and I both use our VTRs as trackday toys. We are in the process of planning out our 2011 trackday schedule but Carolina Motorsports at the end of April, Road America in July, Gingerman in October are pretty sure events. There will be others.

I thought I'd bring this back up since it's getting closer to the season. Anyone else have Track-Day plans?

I think now I will be riding with Team Pro Motion mostly....I worked it out where I can go 6-7+ weekday sessions, and it brings the price down to around $130-$140 each day

I may go to a few with MotorcycleXcitement, and maybe some through NESBA, with some local guys I just me that ride with them...

If anyone is in the Baltimore/York area and wants to share a trailer the more the merrier!

I might be doing Putnam Park again, and maybe another trip to Mid Ohio too. The most likely place I'll make it to is Grattan with the Motorcycle Addicts group. Nothing is reserved yet as it will mostly depend on time availability.

I'm planning on doing possibly 3 track days with the Ducati club in May at Mosport. They usually only allow riding with the group on the Monday of the 3 day event but since the fast group doesn't usually get full it is likely I will ride all 3 days. I like duck hunting!
Mosport International Raceway http://www.mosport.com/home/home.asp is the older one of the 4 tracks we have in Ontario and is a 4 km road course. Very fast with only 10 corners and smooth pavement. It also has a 1/2 mile oval and a 1.4 km kart track. Calabogie, http://www.calabogiemotorsports.com/ , is the newest and the most challenging. It is 5.05 km long with 20 turns. The track is located in the middle of pristine wooded area.
This is the first year with my 954 front end and other goodies and can't wait. Just writing about it gets me all worked up.
Good luck to everyone that is doing track days this year. Keep the rubber side down and keep smiling.

I think its great that canadians can race too.

I plan to make every CCS race at loudon NH and new jersey so 12 events 3 races each event plus track days before every wknd for about 40 days on the track.

Oh and hopefully instructing at the ducati 3 day track event at NJMP. Now THAT is duck hunting.

Yyyeeeaaaaahhh. Alright? Thanks?

It's not all igloos and dogsleds ya know. Canadian superbike series has been around for what? at least over 30 years, Canadians have been on the GP circuit since the early 60s, Mosport was built in the 60s as well.

It's all good, not ragging on you or anything.

Mosports a hell of a track, not for the faint of heart

I'd love to try "Bogie". I get out to Mosport a couple times a year, and out to Toronto Motorsports Park, but have yet to try Bogie or Shannonville.

C'mon, that was funny, admit it. Do they play "rock operas" during the races? Is that rush or spinal tap?
I grew up in buffalo & race in NH so I feel like I can goof a little.

Those walls do look close but like I said, I race loudon so cant say much about walls.

This damn Superhawk has turned me into a track addict!
For me personally, I've got two days locked in right now- and their both before June 1!
Sat and Sun 4/2 and 4/3 at Gratten:
http://teamchicago.tv/2011%20School%20entry.htm
Two days of track time for under $75!! Whoohoow!

Wed, 5/18 at Blackhawk farms:

AFAIK, both days still have room- more VTR's on the track would be great!

Rush would be awesome. I think it should be on the Canadian citizenship applications that you must be a Rush fan, or a Tragically Hip fan to enter Canada.

SmokinJoe,
You gotta like that duck hunting LOL. We aren't racing but rather are doing tracks days. I put the web sites up so that some of our northern US neighbours can see what is available not that very far away. There are many Americans that come to our tracks because from what they tell me, good tracks are hard to find in the north east US. Unless you are a complete a-hole, we will party with just about anyone at night. Don't bring that Bud light crap but rather the good micro brewery beer.
For those on the forum that have never done track days, I would highly recommend it. Your riding skills will improve immensely and the feeling is hard to describe; a combination of terror and pure exileration all rolled up in one. One thing for sure, you will not regret it. Start at the correct level. Nothing is more dangerous than a slow bike with a faster group or vice versa. When I say slow it isn't top speed but rather corner speed. Once your corner speed and ability to maintain good lines improves, move up to the next group. I've seen 1098 in the beginner class. There is no shame in being in the beginner group. Know your limitations and respect them. From my experience, most people that do track days have been nothing but the best. Regardless what class one rides in, it is always fun to dice it out on the track and bull **** at night about the days experiences.
As for the video that Matt365 posted of Mosport, it looks flat and slow and nothing could be further from the truth. When things go wrong, it can be serious, especially turn 2.
Cheers,

Cheers,

The statement of "You go where you look" seems to be the main reason people tend to crash in turn two... you look at the wall and the grass, you go there. Two years ago I was behind a couple GSXRs on a trackday, two buddies; they followed eachother off the track on turn 2, both bikes flipping through the grass.

Turn four is a bit rough too, having to initiate the turn before you crest the hill. I had one friend who died on track after running wide in 4.

First track day ever was 9-11-10 @ NJMP Thunderbolt raceway and man did I get HOOKT!! It's all I can think about. I managed to get in three more trackdays with Team ProMotion before the season's end. I mean I used to love snowboarding, but this year it felt like it was just something to ease the withdraw til next trackday. I've been working all the overtime I can get my hands on to fund this year's trackday efforts. The fact that I only live 45min from NJMP doesn't help my addiction neither. I'm 29 this year and my goal is to get as much track time in as possible b4 I turn 30. Team Promotion offers $75 trackdays on Tues and Thurs for members so I know where all my vacation time is going this year!!

Yeah, actually my #1 rival in my race class for the last 10 yrs is over 50. We battled one year to a 1st & 2nd in the championship (me 2nd) by like one point. Bayliss won world superbike at 38 & biaggi at like 40.

Maybe I should reword that, I hope I didn't offend anybody. I'm 29, unmarried, with no kids. I know once the later two change scrounging up money for track days will be alot harder. I have meet quite a few older people that can whoop me around the track, so in no way was I refering to ablility. I feel like 29 may be my last year of financial freedom, so I might as well have a blast and what better way than blasting around the track.

And here I thought I was going to have to travel all the way to NJ to give you a go at the track!

You didn't offend me Shawn. I was just giving you a hard time from an old guy.

If you don't do it now, you'll have to wait till you're 48 like I did to start. The boys are grown now and the wife just ignores my playing.
