Suggestion/question involving spammers

I recently checked into another forum, DSMtalk, where I had not been in a while, and read through some of their rules. One, actually listed on the homepage, is that new members are not allowed to make their first post until a week after they are registered. This is supposed to deter spammers.

It appears they use the same software as us. Is it possible to implement such a rule? Do you think it would work as intended?

I don't think our version of vBulletin has that option. I check all new registrations on a daily basis and regularly delete one or two new spammers before they get the chance. I'm pretty good about it. Sometimes it's obvious by the name or the email. Sometimes not. When it's not I ban them and send them an email confirming their registration and requesting a reply. If I get none then they get deleted in a month. If the email is kicked back they are deleted immediately. The system seems to work fairly well. I keep adding IP addresses to the banned list so eventually I will get them all. It's a system that seems to work fairly well. Once in a while we'll get a spammer that's pretty quick at posting but I'm willing to deal with it. That's why I have 2 other mods.

Sounds good to me. Obviously, you are on top of the situation. I just thought I'd try to illuminate any other possibilities, should there be any. Keep up the good work!
