Hello SH Riders!

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to say how much I enjoy this website! It had been several years since I owned a bike and I decided I really wanted to ride again. I knew I wanted a good real world 'sport bike', but was unsure of what to get.

After some web searching I found this website and new this was exactly what I was looking for. Shortly afterwards, I stumbled onto a great deal on a '98 Hawk with 10k miles on it for only $2500 (It had sat barely used for 3 years and the guy just wanted rid of it!) and now am in love with her! Thanks to all of you for maintaining such a great resource!!

Congrats on a great find! The Superhawk will be a good ride for the hills of the Steel City. (I grew up just outside the city, Forest Hills to be exact.)

I thought it was a steal too. The guy posted on Craig's List early in the morning, and said he had received 8 calls by the time I did (guessing a couple hours after posted). He said "first come first serve...so off I went immediately! Not sure what I'm going to be upgrading...would love some high mount exhausts, flush turn signals, maybe a chain/sproket conversion, upgrade the grips, SS brake lines, some carbon levers...in the end, I'll probably just ride it as LOL!

Amen! This is what will probably be happening at least until I get my legs/feel/confidence for being on a bike again. Actually heading into Ohio to ride some twisties there with my brother in law and his brother in a few weeks. Supposedly there is a nice stretch there considered to be Ohio's "Tail of the Dragon." Can't wait! Also...that is a sick pick of you patting the tarmac!

So far it has been a great fit for the area for certain. Nice to meet another from Da Burgh!

Man, I'm originally from western PA myself. I must say, there are much better roads there than Indiana. Welcome and enjoy!

Enjoy the torque.

My wife and I are Ducks fans, but after we were out of it we were pulling for the Penguins all the way. Against all odds and the media favoritism of the Red Wings, the Pens got it done. Sometimes the good guys do finish first.

Nice bike, bro! Looks like already a couple mods from the smoked screen to the exhaust and hey...the pipes aren't even discolored yet. Yeah...that was the deal of deals! Folks around can chime in on this, but I think I would be looking at CCT's if the engine starts chattering at all. Oh yeah, one more thing, if you wanna get rid of that rear seat cowl, let me know.

Welcome Penguin. Congrats on the new motorsickle. The SH is a mighty fine machine. Enjoy every ride and be safe. There have been a lot of members go down this season. Looks like you have a great start on gear.

I'm not too far away in Gettysburg. I've been wanting to get to Beaverun for a track day. Are you close?

Wow, we are all over eh? New thread, "Western PA Endorses Official Bike!" Thanks for the welcome!

I am in LOVE with the torque. My brother in law and I swapped bikes (he rides a ZX7R) and he was hesitant to give me the Hawk back after we were done! It's great to welcome Lord Stanley back to Pittsburgh, oh how we have missed him! I'm with you, I'm as sick of the Red Wings as I am the Yankees at this point...I was hoping to see the Ducks put the Wings away, they were so close! I'll tell ya though, Chicago is starting to put together one nasty team! Looking forward to next season already!

Thanks for the compliment! Yup, the guy before did some mods to it (as you just mentioned). My wife and I just had our first (baby girl YAY!!) and I really didn't have the money, but even my wife conceeded this was a good deal! I did some research before buying and read up on the CCT's and the R/R. We will see how it goes! I'll keep you in mind should I decide to lose the cowl...but don't hold your breath!!!

Hi Wolverine, thanks for the welcome. I hate to hear we've had alot of members down this season, that is never a good thing! ATGATT for sure for this guy. Recently bought a red/white/black leather Cortech jacket to add to the safety! Never been to a track day, and with a newborn, it may be a while till I can (though it's something I want to do eventually!) Think I'm about an hour and half away.

Welcome. Nice looking bike and a steal at $2500. First thing I would do is find a chin fairing to protect the oil filter (stock one works good). Last thing you need is a hole in that filter leaving you stranded at the side of the road and yes that can happen ( ask me how I know!).

Thanks Steve! Oh man, I certainly don't need that happening, that must have been rough! Any suggestios on where to find a chin fairing?

Check this out...Route 536, and to some extent Route 555 around Zanesville, OH.

Welcome to the world of Superhawks. Nice deal & you even got the best (fastest) color! Congrats on the baby, just take it easy on the new bike, so you'll be around to enjoy her.

I'll keep my eye out, though I really like the look of the half fairing...

Thanks! It was just too good of a deal to pass up. Just put some fresh rubber on it today, so she's really ready to go! I intend on keeping her as clean as I can!

Red certainly is the best color! Even better, just got a nice cortech leather jacket (red) to match...I'm a blur now...or at least a big of a blur as a casual laid back rider creates! WOOO!

Just how valuable your find is was demonstrated to me when I entered Woods Fun Center in North Austin today. They had an '05 Anthracite Superhawk with a $6499.00 price tag. I almost threw up. The bike was not "a late crate from the back of the warehouse" - this bitch had been on the road as the header was all black and gold.

And the biggest joke of all - it was all stock. It's no wonder Ducati's and Super Dukes sell and nobody has any interest in the Superhawk. I know what to look for on a Superhawk cause in some cases I've done the mods a couple times on mine. It was bone stock for $6500.

However, if you know which end of the hammer does not fit in your mouth the Superhawk can be an unbelievable platform to build on. Especially if you're in the 155 to 185 pound body-weight window.

Lots can be done to the bike for not much money and if you're a good rider you can run with the heavily modded R'1s all day in the twisties. You might play ***-monkey but they won't get away and they will get tired.

You can pull a wheelie out of the corner - ride it through the straight - dig the brakes and hit the next turn in all the same gear. They shift up two and down three. It's a bit like chasing down a gopher with a golf cart.

Let's concentrate on riding and not shifting.

And if you're buying a Superhawk, buy one from an owner. You'll get the best machine for your money. Some or most of the mods may have been done. The bike is very tunable to your type of riding.
