Definately too much credit. As you can see, the spelling errors follow him wherever he goes. It doesn't matter what thread.

How is your Vette? Smokin rubber as usual? Going to pick up my man's car this weekend. It's a 79 Trans Am with a 389/4spd in it. Should be a blast.

Still no car yet. It's painted and all back together just waiting on the insurance to sign off on it and the lawyers to do their thing.

It'll be at least another week before I actually get to drive it.

I still think the contraction should be y'all. I mean, you're eliminating the "ou" from you. Technically there's no "a" in you so "ya'll" wouldn't be as correct.

But really, it's 5am here and this is the only thing I could come up with to post... so, yea. I'm gonna go to bed now.

If you're making a contraction from "you + all" .. wouldn't it then be "Y'll"? I mean the point of a contraction is to make words compressed.. and dropping some letters from BOTH words... Whyt would you drop some from one and not the other?

While we are on the subject.. Where the hell did "ain't" come from?

I don't why I'm wrapping myself up in this....

Well, let us look at a couple other contractions:

don't = do not
let's = let us
'twas = it was (Don't even know if that's.. authentic.)

None of those remove letters from both words. "Can't" is arguable, but I think the same goes for it.

I also say that "y'all" is the correct way to spell that one.

You know, I had this class a year and a half ago. It was one of my most enjoyable ones. It was called "Language in the Social Context," I think, but my professor referred to it as "Socio-linguistics." Anyway, I bring this up to note something interesting (to me) that was brought to the class' attention by our professor. She distinguished between "prescriptive grammar" and "descriptive grammar."

Prescriptive grammar is what they teach you in school. You know, where you're supposed to make everything you say (write) fit within the rules, so that anyone reading it will gain the same understanding, and also so the grammar police don't come to your house with guns.

Descriptive grammar is what results when you just start letting the thoughts fly. Rather than put a steering damper on your creative thinking, you say what you came to say, however it comes out, regardless of the rules. Complete sentences, proper punctuation, threats from the grammar police - they all have very little to do with the message being conveyed.

One mind connecting to another is the goal. In a related matter, check this out:

I saw this a while back.. thought it was really neat... if you just skim, you can read it just as fast as if it were written correctly...

ANd yes Craig, I knew that is was a contraction to mean "are not" but who decided to spell it THAT way? Rather WHY did it get spelled that way...

Because us people down in Texas don't say "R" that well so it just transitioned from spoken to written for ease of understanding.

Well some of the people around here make up for your lack of using "R".. and they put it in words that dont even have one.. or in places that they dont belong...

Arkasar... is just one example..

You got me.. I went back three pages thinking I missed something... Then realized you must be referring to the "ain't-Y'all-contraction" thingy...

Dont ever do that again. (stern scolding, shaking finger....)
