Need suggestions on bike situation

Quick summary of my current situation. The USMC has me stationed in FL, 1,000 miles away from home. I have my '99 S-hawk and an '03 KTM 525EXC dirtbike back home in WV. The lack of a bike (And transportation period) is killing me down here. I was thinking of supermoto'ing the KTM and having a fun hooligan bike to run around on. Getting it down here, however, would be the biggest obstical to jump over, not to mention fighting the DMV getting it paper-work legal.

After checking out some of the local bike shops, there are a lot of 3-5 year old bikes with relatively low mileage in a good price range (5-6k). I've thought about getting a bike while down here, and once I get done with school, I could ride it back home. I could box up and ship home all of the nonsense, and just travel with a backpack for the day or so ride back. Or, I could become a tightwad financially, and save every penny I have, and when I go home put 6-7k down on a new 848 and finance the rest.

Opinions?

www.forwardair.com

Very reliable, pretty cheap. You are near a drop location. They actually take decent care of their cargo. I think it's the only way to go
