Country Boy Can Survive

Whenever I feel myself gettin' lazy about engineering my escape from The Peoples Republik of Thirdworldafornia, I listen to Hank Jr.

My Dad died of a heart attack on the Doctor's doorstep when I was ten years old. His funeral was the only time our church was standing-room-only. He was decorated as a marksman and engineer in the Normandy invasion and I have a plaque signed by JFK above my cash register recognizing his bravery and service to his country.

Other men tried to fill in but it was up to me to find out the man within. I did.

I tested the limits and the only thing I didn't crash was the high performance aircraft that they put in my hands soon after I soloed five of them on my 16th birthday.

It hasn't been much different since. I walk my own trail and if I don't like it - I'll build it to what I want.

On the road, I drive my own race and I don't follow people I don't know. I'm not very forgiving with wimps who can't find the right end of the shovel.

I may die bitter but I won't die of boredom or apologies.

Chris Knight is real good.

As long as we're listening to American originals, and on a slightly lighter note, how about Junior Brown in front of the Beach Boys.

I love his solo in this one;

+1 on the HankIII. Shooter Jennings and Cross Canadian Ragweed as well. I play guitar in a rock cover band for fun, but someday I hope to find some musicians to start a new band with and play stuff like these guys.

But 'til then.......what could lay down a tastier beat than a V-twin!
