A Boy and His Motorcycle (A Love Story)
A Boy and His Motorcycle (A Love Story)
I have been riding and have owned a motorcycle since I was 5: My 1st bike was an Italjet 50cc auto, then Italjet 50cc race bike and when I was 12 yr old it would still do 50 mph and I was over 120 pounds. Next I got a Yamaha XT125 on & off road bike that I rode to school everyday (lived in small town less than 2000 Pop, my Dad ok’d it with his friend the local cop) until I bought a 1982 KZ550 Black when I was 16. Next at 18yr old after working hard and saving my money, I bought a brand new 1990 Kawasaki Ninja ZX600R (the little one) and rode it in the Houston area over a four year period and put 56,000 miles on it, without incident (till this day a say a prayer of protection before I ride). Next, after six years without a bike I purchased a 1993 Honda CBR1000F Bk/Sil/Red in 2000 rode it for 3 years, great sport-touring bike, but too heavy for the way I like to ride and I missed my Ninja 600R at only 379 lbs and 16” wheels I could really flick it around. On August 31st 2005, I bought my 1998 SH and I love it!!!!! More toque than the 1993 CBR1000F and light like my little Ninja, I am very happy and in love with my Honda Super Hawk and I lived happily ever after……….

Most people don’t understand that motorcycles are part of our lives and not just a mode of transportation or mere entertainment. My Dad always had a bike and I was riding with him since I was 15 months old with my little red Bell helmet. When I told him I was getting a Honda Super Hawk he said that was the name of his first bike, a 1967 Honda Super Hawk 305 twin (Black & silver) and it had been his favorite bike of all the motorcycles he had ever owed.
I guess history does repeat itself.

I got a minibike at 7 and had an older friend down the road that was building a "chopper" from a 305 Superhawk, a re-welded stretched and raked frame and assorted parts. I would ride down the alley to get to his garage and spent a lot of time dreaming of my first real motorcycle. It came in the form of an Honda SL125. Man I loved that bike.
Re: A Boy and His Motorcycle (A Love Story)
bikes have been in my family's blood for at least 3 generations. my great uncle bought a harley after serving in Australia during WWII. he rode it from upstate NY to San Fransisco, where he caught a boat back to Australia and settled down with the girl he had met and left behind. both my uncles rode since childhood, and used to give me rides (which I remember) when I was as young as 3. my folks had no love for bikes after watching both my uncles ride and crash theirs. so no bikes unless they are free. when I was 12, I found one uncle's old dirtbike sitting in the other uncle's garage where it had sat for at least 10 years. so my first bike was a 1972 suzuki 2-stroke 175cc enduro. the same bike I was given a ride on at 3 years old. I got a cheap KX80 when I was 15, and then nothing until junior year of college. I got a 1982 suzuki GS450L for $1k. 2 years later a 1992 seca II, and last year, the superhawk. we got off on the wrong foot, and it took some time, and money, but we finally got used to eachother. now, I know that there are some bikes that I just will not be satisfied with (anything 600cc I-4). best damn bike I ever rode. and I own it.
