FS: FCR carbs for VTR
FS: FCR carbs for VTR
For Sale:
I picked up a set of FCR carbs used from a superhawk owner in australia awhile back. They came right off the bike and he had them set up for a stage 1 bike with no airbox (they have pod filters). I did not get around to trying them on my bike - they appear to be in excellent condition - obviously will need tuning. Just checking interest. I can send pics if interested. PM me. I just want what I have into them which is $550. If no interest I can list on ebay but figured this group would be the most relevant users. These are next to impossible to get as you know if you've tried. PM only if serious please.
thanks guys.

I had been eyeing FCRs for some time now (but they are quite rare, as anyone who has searched for some can attest). From what I read, they add power across the board and dramatically speed up engine response....
They used them on motocross and enduro bikes (OEM), roadracers,.... and they were generally considered the top-of-the-line carb (back in the pre-FI days), so unless all the tuners and race teams using them were incompetent, chances are they work well....
Quite loved in V-twin land too: Keihin FCR FAQ
links to pics. I was looking forward to tinkering with these and seeing just what kind of improvement they could bring - whether true increase power or just better response. They are meant to run without airbox - they are direct slide so no longer depend on the pressured airbox to work with the CV carbs well (as I understand that) so should allow better flow. Good luck.

thanks for all the interest. At this point going to consider them going to Mikstr first. should be interesting for all of us to hear your experiences and what they bring. thanks guys. Its making me miss my SH already, but my friend is loving it so far. His first real experience with a twin.
The other "Bill"
Hey all. I have been skulking around here for a bit but since Cliby's SH is in my shop now I have to speak up. I am pretty much a newbie to twins. I talked the GF into a SV650s years ago and that bike is sweet but never had any real power and as any of you who have followed Bill's exploits on this bike know it has plenty of power as well as having lost a bunch of weight. Great bike. I have had much faster and much slower (my specialty is vintage Honda SOHCs) but this bike is the most fun I have had while getting 22mpg...lol.
I considered those carbs for a bout 3 minutes. But this bike is running so sweet and it is so crisp I didn't want to risk messing it up before I got any real chance to put some street and track miles on it.
I too will be watching to see how they work out in the new owners hands...If only Bill had had time to get them on this super chicken...

FCR's are very popular in the Dirt bike world still to this day. I have an FCR39 Slant, and FCR41 MX for my DRZ485, and 10 or 12 others on the parts shelves.
Have to be VERY careful on used FCR’s from a dirt bike due to body wear that cannot be fixed… May not apply to street or track carbs.
Used FCR's get a full inspection and common wear parts replaced before I install and start the tuning process.
Seal for the Vacuum Release Plate
Oring for the Float needle seat
Needle jet
Needle
Main, Starter,and pilot jets
Fuel screw o ring.
AP Diaphragm
As long as the body itself, or the slide are not worn out, and there is no physical damage, you can bring a FCR back in to service.
BUT, one monkey twist of the fuel screw past closed, or a broken off tip from an aluminum aftermarket fuel screw, worn body, damaged passages cleaned by wire or other incorrect object, carb body soaked in carb cleaner, ham fisted attempt to clean it by separating the top and bottom body parts, stripped screw holes, worn, damaged throttle shafts, dried or cracked fuel bowl packing causing a leak, ..... the list goes on.
Tuning a carb that has any of those issues is difficult for a very knowledgeable tuner.. impossible for a novice. You just won’t recognize as a hard fault, and think it's a jetting issue.
Not saying these carbs need anything at all, as Ive not seen them.. The above is based on my personal experience with used FCR's on 98 through 2008 dirt (or Super Moto) bikes... Yamaha, KTM, Suzuki

My experience with them has been they are simpler than CV and not more/less prone to wear or damage. I much prefer the easier accesibility for routine items. I don't disagree with the items you mention, but they all probably apply to any used carbs don't they?
Agree with all.. And to other readers, in no way was implying these carbs will, may, do have any issues.. In fact,,, this is a for sale thread.. and the carbs are sold...I should not have posted any of these here.
